PORTLAND,
OREGON (May 13, 2007) -- Carl Skerlong, driving his Hoosier-shod WR-1000 race
car, won the DSR National race at Portland International Raceway over the
weekend. In addition, he also set a new race-lap record bettering the previous
time by more than a second.
After qualifying on the pole,
Skerlong set the record on his second lap around the historic 12-turn,
1.967-mile road course. The record-setting time was 1:08:76 eclipsing the old
mark of 1:10:00. Skerlong won the race using Hoosier's
R25A compound in both the front and rear of his West Race Cars designed
WR-1000. The Hoosier R25A compound was also used by
runner-up finisher John Bender in another West Race Cars designed WR-1000. After
the race, the winner commented, "This is an excellent racecar and dollar
for dollar you'd be hard pressed to find a faster car." Second
place finisher John Bender stated, "I was very pleased with the (Hoosier)
R25A's. The Hoosier tires were not only very consistent, I also ran my fastest
lap near the end of the race." Bender added, "Compared to the other
tire brand, which fell off quickly, the Hoosiers ran great the entire
race." Hoosier Product Manager Bruce Foss commented,
"We are very excited about this new relationship with West Race Cars. Ben
Odenborg, John Bender, Leo Mathews and everyone else there are seriously dedicated
to producing winning race cars." Foss added, "It is flattering that
this fine group has chosen the Hoosier brand to achieve their
goals." Both the first and second
place cars used Hoosier 20.0x7.5-13 C3000 R25A (43161R25A) tires in the front
and 22.0x10.0-13 C3000 R25A (43298R25A) tires in the rear. West
Race Cars has over 80 SCCA National and Regional wins and three SCCA National Championships
