IPSWICH,
UNITED KINGDOM (July 7-8, 2007) -- The National Hot Rod Series contested the
World Finals last weekend with Carl Boardley repeating as the event winner. For
Boardley, the victory was a little less controversial than last year. In that
event, Boardley made contact with race leader Andy Steward on the final lap
which paved the way for his first win. This year, Boardley left no doubt as to
his talent winning the World Finals for a second consecutive time. The victory
also reinforces Boardley's status as one of series' top drivers.
On Saturday, 32 cars were on hand for qualifying at the 1/4-mile Foxhall
International Raceway. Carl Boardley set fast time of the day with a lap of
14.743 seconds (61.046 mph). Malcolm Blackman, the 2004 race winner, was second
fastest in qualifying.
On Sunday, it was finally time for the big event. The 75-lap race featured
five leaders among four different drivers and had eight of 32 starters
finishing on the lead lap.
Despite starting up front, Carl Boardley fell back to fourth before making
his late-race charge to the front. But Boardley methodically made his way through
the pack to finally be in position to challenge for the win.
In the closing laps, Boardley made his move passing John Christie for the
lead. Boardley, despite a late-race caution, held on the rest of the way to
capture the win.
Chris Haird finished in second place with John Christie settling for third
place.

The event winner added, "During the qualifying rounds, I've sometimes
used tires which are months old and still had no problems. That's what I call
good value."
