HARTFORD,
OH (June 30) -- Dale Blaney, who, along with the Blaney family are
promoters of Sharon Speedway, patiently waited for his Hoosier tires
to carry him to the front of the field after starting sixth in Wednesday's
All Star Sprint Series race at Sharon Speedway. It was the fourth race
in the annual event known as Ohio Speedweeks in the popular sprint
series. Blaney also becomes the first repeat winner in this year's
installment having won this past Sunday at Attica Raceway Park. The
win also brings the season win total to 15 wins (in 17 races) for the
Hoosier brand in the All Star Sprint Series.
Forty-seven cars were entered in qualifying on the
3/8-mile oval with 43 drivers riding on Hoosier tires. Jesse Hockett
captured fast time honors with a lap of 12.971 seconds using Hoosier's
softest offering (D10) on his right rear position. Dale Blaney was
close behind at 12.997 seconds as Hoosier-shod drivers posted the 20
fastest times in qualifying.
Three of the four heat race winners rode on Hoosier
tires including previous night's winner John Ivy, Randy Hannagan and
Ed Lynch, Jr.
In the 30-lap feature, all but one entrant rode on
Hoosiers. Lee Jacobs led the race's first 10 laps, before giving way
to Chad Kemenah who led the next three laps. That is when sixth
starting Dale Blaney, using a D12/D15 (LR/RR) set up, took command of
the race. Blaney led the final 17 laps to capture the win.
Blaney revealed his knowledge of the family's track
did play a part in the win admitting, "We knew what tire to put
on. We had a little harder tire on. I don't know how many people had
that one on. When the track gets like this it seems like a harder tire
goes better."
Chad Kemenah came in second place using a pair of
D12's, while Bobby Clark was third using a D12/RD15 combination. Kelly
Kinser was fourth followed by Lee Jacobs, Danny Smith, Rod Chaney,
John Ivy, Randy Hannagan and Tim Kaeding in fifth through tenth,
respectively. All told, the first 17 drivers to cross the finish line
in the feature rode on Hoosier tires.
The All Star Sprint Series will resume Ohio Speedweeks
tonight, July 1, at Fremont Speedway.
Our thanks to engineer Jon Huffman who is attending
the Ohio Speedweeks and provided the details used in this report.
