LAWRENCEBURG,
IN (September 12-13) -- The All Star Circuit of Champions Series was
in action over the weekend with Team-Hoosier finishing 1-2-3 on both
Friday and Saturday night at Lawrenceburg (IN) Speedway. On Friday,
the 30-lap feature had four race leaders among three drivers before
Kenny Jacobs emerged the winner. On Saturday, the 50-lap feature had
five different leaders with Dale Blaney leading the final 22 laps en
route to his fourth win of the season in the series. The two-night
event was also attended by Hoosier Open Wheel Dirt Product Manager
Neil Cowman.
LAWRENCEBURG, IN (SEPTEMBER 12) -- Forty-five cars
took turns in qualifying on the 1/4-mile Lawrenceburg Speedway oval
with 42 cars equipped with Hoosier tires. The Hoosier brand was strong
taking the top ten spots in qualifying with Jeremy Campbell posting
fast time of the night with his 10.268 second lap. Campbell used
Hoosier's softest compound (D10) as his right rear choice of compounds
to secure the top time. Curt Trainer, Tom Busch, Jason Johnson, Jeff
Shepard, Dale Blaney, Kenny Jacobs, Nick Nabor, Bill Rose and Rob
Chaney qualified second through tenth, respectively.
John Ivy won the first heat race using a D12 compound,
while Kraig Kinser and Chad Kemenah won the final two heats using a
D10 tire on their right rear position.
In the 30-lap feature, 22 of the 24 starters rode on
Hoosier tires. Kenny Jacobs took the lead from the green flag using a
pair of Hoosier D12's. Jason Johnson then moved into the lead on lap
ten. Johnson held the lead for 12 circuits before giving way to top
qualifier Jeremy Campbell. Campbell led until lap 27, when Kenny Jacobs
moved back into the race lead for good leading the final four laps to
take the exciting win before a packed house. Jeremy Campbell settled
for second place followed by Jeff Shepard for the podium sweep by Team-Hoosier.
LAWRENCEBURG, IN (SEPTEMBER 13) -- Forty-six cars were
entered on the second night of action at Lawrenceburg Speedway
Saturday evening with 43 of them riding on USA-made Hoosier tires.
Jeremy Campbell was the fastest Hoosier-shod qualifier for the second
consecutive night with a lap of 10.455 seconds.
The Hoosier brand was undefeated in heat race action
when Marc Jessup (RD12), Erin Crocker (D10), Nick Nabor (D10), and
Ryan Coniam (D10) each won their respective heat races.
In the 50-lap feature in which 23 of the 24 starters
rode on Hoosier tires, Jason Johnson took the lead on lap one.
Johnson, using a D12/D15 combination, relinquished the lead to Rob
Chaney on the second circuit. Chaney then led the next 12 laps before
giving way to Kraig Kinser. Kinser then led through lap 27 before
Byron Reid took a brief turn out front before Dale Blaney moved into
the lead on lap 29. From there, Blaney and his D12/RD15 set-up
defended his leader status until crossing the finish line on the
50th lap. The win was worth $12,000.
Following Blaney across the line was Dean Jacobs
(D12/D12) and Kenny Jacobs in second and third. Jason Johnson, Jeff
Shepard, Byron Reid and Chad Kemenah finished fourth through seventh,
respectively, as Team-Hoosier claimed the top seven spots, and nine
out of the top ten, in the feature race.
It was the 40th podium sweep of the season in 48
nights of racing by Hoosier-shod drivers in the All Star Circuit of
Champions Series.
Hoosier Open Wheel Dirt Product Manager Neil Cowman
commented on the Lawrenceburg racing, "The Hoosiers performed
very well on the Lawrenceburg track as the results showed."
Cowman added, "I really enjoyed getting back out in the field to
be able to speak to the drivers and teams one-on-one to make sure we
are providing the best racing tires available."
The All Star Series has just four events remaining on
their 2003 schedule with Chad Kemenah holding a commanding 336 point
lead. In fact, Kemenah needs only sign in at the next four races an he
will repeat as the series champion. Jason Johnson is in second place
in the series with Dean Jacobs in third place in the rankings. All
three drivers race on Hoosier tires as Team-Hoosier seeks its third
consecutive series title.
The next race on the All Star schedule is this Friday
at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, PA. The race will be a
$6,000-to-win race.
