GREENVILLE,
SC (April 27) -- Making his first series start since 1998, Toby Porter returned
to NASCAR Hills Bros. All Pro Series in grand fashion Saturday afternoon
capturing the Ingles 200 at Greenville Pickens Speedway. Ironically, not only
was Porter's last start also at Greenville Pickens Speedway, it also ended in
the same fashion--a victory. Saturday's win was Porter's tenth career series
win.
Steven Howard, from Greer, SC, won the Bud Pole Award after circling the
1/2-mile oval in 20.087 seconds (89.610 mph). Benny Gordon started alongside
Howard in the front row of the 32-car field.
Howard led the race's first 64 circuits before giving way to series points
leader David Reutimann. Reutimann's turn at the point lasted until lap 77, when
rookie Dusty Williams took his turn out front. It was on lap 82, during a
mandatory caution that Porter made the decision to go with two Hoosier
tires while most took on four. The move proved to be the right one, as the
fifth starting Porter took over the race lead on lap 98. Porter dominated the
rest of the way en route to the checkered flag.
Porter earned $8,125 for the win. Finishing in second place was David
Reutimann, followed by Benny Gordon, Jody Lavender and Randy Gentry in third
through fifth, respectively. Amazingly, 16 of the 32 race starters finished the
200-lap event on the lead lap.
David Reutimann resides atop the NASCAR All Pro Series standings with 350
points followed by Randy Gentry (310), Eddie Hoffman (307), Charlie Bradberry
(306), and Jody Lavender (287) rounding out the top five.
The next stop on the schedule for the All Pro Series is May 11, at Birmingham,
AL.
Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. is proud to be the exclusive tire brand for the
NASCAR All Pro Series during the 2002 racing season.
