BRISTOL,
TN (August 21) -- Kenny Wallace won the NASCAR All Pro Series Charter
250 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Wednesday night. The NASCAR Busch
Series regular was asked to drive the Richie Wauters prepared Voctor
Ford in his third-ever series start. Wallace benefited from a 15
second penalty imposed on then race leader Shane Sieg when a crew
member was over the pit wall too early. Sieg, who had led the race's
first 106 laps, was the class of the field and the 15 second penalty
put him a lap down. But Sieg, charged back to finish runner-up to
Wallace who led the race's final 20 laps en route to the win.
Thirty-two cars started the Wednesday evening race.
Shane Sieg was on the pole for the 250-lap event after capturing the
Bud Pole Award with a time of 15.944 seconds (120.346 mph) around the
1/2-mile track.
From the pole, Sieg immediately jumped out to the race
lead on the Bristol high-banks. On lap 106, one of the eight race
cautions was thrown prompting the 20-year-old driver to pit. That is
when the eager crew member entered the pit stall too early causing the
driver to be penalized 15 seconds. This error resulted in Chris
Davidson inheriting the lead which he held until lap 160, when Benny
Gordon moved into the race lead. Gordon led until lap 230, when Kenny
Wallace made his move into the lead. Wallace led the remainder of the
way, but not without a challenge from Sieg.
Wallace pocketed $10,725 for the win, while Sieg
collected $6,130 for the runner-up finish. Rounding out the top five
were Jeff Fultz in third, Benny Gordon in fourth and Greg Pope in
fifth. Five drivers finished the race on the lead lap.
Kenny Wallace also competed in the NASCAR Busch race
on Friday night and finished 6th in the Stacker 2 car.
Jeff Fultz leads the NASCAR All Pro Series standings
with 1609 points followed by David Reutimann with 1508 points.
Reutimann finished the race in sixth. Charlie Bradberry, Billy Bigley,
Jr. and Shane Sieg round out the top five in the standings.
The next event on the series schedule is a September
14th stop at Southern National Speedway in Kenly, NC. The series now
has just three events remaining on their 2002 schedule.
