TULSA,
OK (May 11) -- Gary Wright led all 30 laps at Tulsa Speedway in the
All Stars versus NCRA Outlaws Sprint A feature Saturday en route to
picking up the winner's $5,000 payout. Ironically, Wright won last
year's NCRA/All Star battle at Tulsa Speedway in August. For Wright, a
9-time NCRA champion, the victory was his 74th career win. The 35-car
field was dominated by Team-Hoosier with 31 entrants opting to ride on
the Indiana-based tire brand.
Jason Johnson set fast time in qualifying when he
circled the 3/8-mile clay oval in 14.763 seconds. Kelly Kinser was
second fastest in qualifying at 15.016 seconds. Both drivers used
Hoosier tires to capture the top two positions in qualifying.
All four preliminary 10-lap heat race winners rode to
victory on Hoosier tires. Jason Johnson, Kenny Jacobs, Brooke Tatnell
and Dean Jacobs each won their respective heat races.
Bill Rose won the 4-lap dash race with Danny Smith
taking the runner-up position.
In the 30-lap feature, Gary Wright used his outside
front row starting position to take the race lead at the drop of the
green flag. From there, Wright dominated the race leading every lap en
route to picking up the win and the $5,000 payout. Wright used a pair
of Hoosier D10's for the 30-lap feature.
Bill Rose took runner-up honors followed by Danny
Smith, Jason Johnson and Kelly Kinser third through fifth,
respectively.
When the checkered flag fell, the first 13 drivers to
cross the finish line were riding on Hoosier tires.
After 14 races, Chad Kemenah leads the All Star
standings with 757 points followed closely by Kenny Jacobs with 744
points and Dean Jacobs with 698 points. Team-Hoosier has now compiled
an impressive 11-3 record in All Star competition in 2002.
The next race on the All Star schedule is this
Saturday at Chillicothe, OH at K-C Raceway.
