MILLINGTON,
TN (October 20) -- With rain postponing Saturday's NASCAR All Pro
Series season finale until Sunday, Jeff Fultz had an extra day to
ponder his five point deficit to David Reutimann in the series
standings entering the Memphis 125 at Memphis Motorsports Park. Fultz
started the race on the outside pole and led every lap en route to undoubtedly
the biggest win of his career. Fultz knew the title was his to lose on
lap 43 when David Reutimann pulled into the pits with a faulty engine
ending his day and his title hopes. From there, Fultz smoothly drove
his C&C Boiler/Cleaver Brooks Chevrolet around the 3/4-mile oval
to take the win and more importantly the series championship. Fultz
also collected $11,575 for the win.
Thirty-four cars started the 125-lap race. Scott
Carlson was the Bud Pole Award winner with Jeff Fultz starting
alongside him in the front row. When the green flag fell, Fultz
immediately used his outside line to dart into the race lead--a lead
he never relinquished. One hour and six minutes later, Fultz took the
checkered flag without ever stopping for fuel or for tires.
Scott Carlson finished in second place and collected
$5,930. Rookie Jarod Robie finished in third place after starting
third. Robie earned $4,245 for the final podium position.
Fourteenth starting Nathan Haseleu finished fourth
with 16th starting Joe Aramendia rounding out the top five. Amazingly,
Haseleu was making his first-ever start in the series.
Although disappointed after his worst finish of the
season (31st), David Reutimann came to victory lane and congratulated
Fultz on his win and resulting championship. The two end the season
each with three wins in the 14 races contested in the series in
2002.
Fourteen of the 34 starters finished the 125-lap race
on the lead lap. The race also had six cautions for a total of 26
laps.
The NASCAR All Pro Series season ends with Jeff Fultz
atop the final driver standings with 2043 points. David Reutimann
settles for runner-up honors with 1938 markers. Charlie Bradberry
takes third with 1859 points, while Billy Bigley, Jr. (1822) and Benny
Gordon (1737) round out the top five. Jason Hogan won the 2002 NASCAR
All Pro Rookie-of-the-Year award.
The NASCAR All Pro Series drivers will be honored at
the 2002 Awards Banquet in Atlanta on Saturday, October 26th, at the
Atlanta Airport Hilton.
Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. congratulates Jeff Fultz on
