TALLADEGA,
AL (October 1, 2005) -- Kraig Kinser erased any doubt whether he could win on
pavement Saturday at Talladega Superspeedway. The World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint
Car Series regular driver dominated the "Food World 300 " leading 83
of 113 laps en route to the win in only his second series start. The son of
19-time World of Outlaws Series champion Steve Kinser, came from the rear of
the field to capture the exciting win after an early penalty for not following
the blend line upon reentering the track after pitting. Kinser has seven wins
this season in the WoO Series on Hoosier sprint tires and now has his
first-ever ARCA RE/MAX Series win using Hoosier radials. The race was the 23rd
and final of the season for the ARCA RE/MAX Series with Frank Kimmel claiming
his sixth consecutive championship and his record seventh career title in the
series.
Another huge car count was on hand for the final event of the season with 53
cars jamming the pits hoping for one of the coveted 43 starting spots. In
qualifying, Kraig Kinser earned the Pork Pole Award as the event's fastest
qualifier circling the 2.66-mile track in 50.677 seconds (188.961 mph).
The race featured six different leaders among three drivers including; Kraig
Kinser (1, 4-51, 80-113), Bobby Gerhart (2-3, 52-72) and Erin Crocker (73-79).
The race was slowed by cautions just three times for 24 laps.
After receiving his penalty for merging too quickly into race traffic, the
rookie Kinser battled back from the rear of the field to claim the win over
Kyle Krisiloff by just .168 seconds. Krisiloff's teammate Bobby Gerhart finished
third as the duo attempted to over take the rookie to no avail.
Erin Crocker continued to turn heads with a fourth place finish driving for
Evernham Motorsports in their driver development program. Frank Kimmel finished
fifth followed by Burney Lamar, Mike Guerity, David Ragan, Christi Passmore and
Dexter Bean. Craig Butts claimed the 11th spot and was the final driver to
finish on the lead lap.
David Ragan was the Hoosier Tire Hard Charger Award winner for advancing the
most positions. Ragan started 30th en route to an 8th place finish.
Frank Kimmel takes his sixth consecutive and seventh overall ARCA RE/MAX
Series championship finishing the season with 5750 points. Joey Miller finished
in second place in the final driver standings with 5325 points. Miller also
