KANSAS
CITY, KS (October 19, 2012) -- The ARCA Series concluded its 60th Anniversary
Season Friday at Kansas Speedway in grand fashion.
Alex Bowman (right) dominated the season
finale leading three times for 67 laps in the ARCA Kansas Lottery 98.9
race, but it was Chris Buescher finishing eighth claiming the 2012 ARCA Series
championship.
Alex Bowman left no doubt in qualifying he would
be a force in the night's 99-lap race. The 19-year-old driver set a new track
record in qualifying circling the 1.5-mile oval in 29.259 seconds (184.559
mph).
The new pavement resulted in lap times more than
two seconds faster than last year's event or more than 12 mph faster than last
year's top qualifying speed (172.133 mph).
In fact, 23 of the 37 cars posting times in
qualifying posted times better than last year's top qualifying time at Kansas
Speedway.
The race had six leaders among four different
drivers. Leaders during the event included; Alex Bowman 1-29, 38-60, 85-99 (67
laps), John Wes Townley 30-37 (8 laps), Grant Enfinger 61-83 (23 laps) and
Brennan Poole 84 (1 lap).
The race had five cautions for a total of 38
laps on the new, higher-banked track surface.
In
the end, Alex Bowman finished the race 2.017 seconds ahead of a hard-charging
Kevin Swindell.
Swindell was followed to the finish line by
Grant Enfinger, Brennan Poole and Brennan Newberry to round out the top five.
Poole also won the 7-race Hoosier Tire
Superspeedway Challenge Award by 105 points over Frank Kimmel.
In addition to his fourth win of the season,
Bowman also won the top rookie honors for the series.
Frank Kimmel finished the race in sixth and was
denied his 10th series crown when Chris Buescher finished eighth to claim the
2012 ARCA Series championship.
The 19-year-old Buescher, who like Bowman also
had four wins this season, captured the title over the veteran Kimmel by just
75 points.
