TALLADEGA,
AL (April 16, 2011) -- To say Ty Dillon has made a splash in the ARCA Series
would be a bit of an understatement. The young driver used a last-lap pass of
series veteran Frank Kimmel to capture his third career win in only his fifth
ARCA Series start.
Dillon started from the pole and
led 50 of 94 laps in the 3 Amigos 250 race at Talladega Superspeedway.
The race, which was scheduled for Friday afternoon, was moved to 8:00 a.m.
Saturday due to inclement weather.
Thirty-nine drivers posted times
in qualifying with rookie Ty Dillon posting the fastest time around the
2.66-mile speed plant. Dillon's time was 52.134 seconds (183.681 mph). Kyle
Fowler was second with a time of 52.163 seconds (183.578 mph).
During the race, the quickest
lap times were posted by drivers lining up nose-to-tail (rather than in pairs)
around the longest track on the ARCA Series schedule.
The race featured 11 leaders
among four different drivers. Leaders included; Ty Dillon 1-16, 23-51, 66-69,
94 (50 laps), Grant Enfinger 17-19, 82-86 (8 laps), Dakoda Armstrong 20-22, 70
(4 laps), Frank Kimmel 52-65, 71-81, 87-93 (32 laps).
Dillon,
driving the #41 Ixinergy Chevrolet, passed nine-time series champion Frank
Kimmel on the final lap to capture the win. Kimmel, who started 22nd, was
trying to break a 45-race winless streak.
Dillon finished just .038
seconds ahead of Kimmel at the finish line.
Kimmel was followed by Pennsylvania's
Bobby Gerhart in third place.
Brett Hudson finished fourth
followed by Chris Buescher to round out the top five.
Twenty four of the 39 starters finished
on the lead lap. The race had six cautions for a total of 32 laps.
After his season-opening win at
Daytona and third place finish at Talladega Bobby Gerhart remains atop the ARCA
Series standing with 450 points. Ty Dillon is in second with 440 points.
Up next on the ARCA Series
schedule is the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 at Salem (IN) Speedway on May 1st.
