SALEM,
IN (April 22, 2007) -- When Brian Keselowski crossed the finish line first at
Salem Speedway on Sunday afternoon, he also became part of the first father/son
combination to win in the ARCA RE/MAX Series at the .555-mile speedplant.
Brian's father, Bob, won the ARCA race at Salem in 1987. On Sunday, it was
Brian's turn to capture the win at the historic bullring. The younger
Keselowski made just one pit stop during the 200-lap race. The Rochester Hills,
MI driver is the fourth different winner this season in the four races contested
this year in the series. Last year, the series started the season with eight
different winners before eventual series champion Frank Kimmel became the
first repeat winner at Kansas Speedway--which is up next for the series
(Friday, 4/27). For 13 seasons, Hoosier has been the official tire of the ARCA
RE/MAX Series.
After weeks of unusually cold temperatures, the Midwest
was blessed with beautiful weather all weekend. With sunny skies and
temperatures in the 70's, 42 drivers made the trip to Salem for the Kentuckiana
Ford Dealers 200. In qualifying, Michael McDowell set fast
time around the .555-mile track with a time of 17.794 seconds (112.285 mph).
Dexter Bean, Justin Allgaier, Chad McCumbee and Frank Kimmel rounded out the
top five in qualifying. All the competitors used Hoosier short track bias-ply
tires. The race featured three race leaders which included
Michael McDowell (1-56), Dexter Bean (57-86) and Brian Keselowski (87-200).
There were also 11 cautions for 81 laps during the 200-lap event. Brian
Keselowski, who started 10th, won by 10 car lengths over Dexter Bean. For Bean,
it was a career-best finish. Michael McDowell finished in third after starting
on the pole. Brett Hudson finished fourth place followed
by NASCAR veteran Kenny Schrader. Schrader's run was even more impressive given
the fact he had to start from the rear of the field. With Schrader in Phoenix
on Saturday for the Nextel Cup race, his car was qualified 13th by Mario
Gosselin. As a result, Schrader started the race from the rear of the field per
series rules. Rounding out the top ten was 17-year-old James
Buescher in sixth place followed by Phillip McGilton, Bryan Silas, Billy
Venturini and Justin Allgaier in seventh through tenth. Patrick Sheltra and
Justin South finished 11th and 12th, respectively, and completed the list of
lead-lap finishers. After finishing 22nd, Frank Kimmel falls to
second place in the driver's standings. Justin Allgaier takes over the lead
with 765 points followed by Kimmel with 705 markers. Phillip McGilton (690),
Dexter Bean (660) and Justin South (630) round out the top five in the driver
standings. The ARCA RE/MAX Series kicks into gear
with another race scheduled this Friday (April 27) at Kansas Speedway. The race
will be broadcast LIVE on SPEED at 5:00 pm ET.
All ARCA RE/MAX Series races are serviced out of Hoosier's
corporate headquarters in Lakeville, IN.
Members of the Hoosier service team attending the event in
Salem included; Dave Wroblewski, Chad Wright, Kevin Wroblewski, Derrik
Duszynski, Fred Awald and Mike Haenes.
