SALEM,
IN (April 25) -- Defending ARCA RE/MAX Series champion Frank Kimmel
won his first race of the season Sunday leading 153 of 200 race laps
in the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 at Salem Speedway. The race took
its toll on the competitors with just 17 of the 34 starters still on
the track at the finish in the series' third event of the season.
There were 13 cautions flags for a total of 72 laps.
Frank Kimmel, who had won seven times prior to
Sunday's race, was on the pole for the event after capturing the Pork
Pole Award with his time of 17.608 seconds around the .555-mile high
banks of Salem Speedway. The time calculated out to a speed of 113.471
mph.
The race began with five-time series champion Kimmel
charging into the lead at the drop of the green flag. The
Jeffersonville, IN driver went on to lead three times for a total of
153 laps only relinquishing the lead twice to Jason Jarrett when he
brought the #46 Advance Auto Parts Ford in for servicing.
Finishing in second place for the third time in seven
races at Salem was Jason Jarrett. Billy Venturini took third followed
by Brandon Knupp in fourth as just four cars finished the race on the
lead lap.
Brent Sherman, Ron Cox and Andy Belmont finished fifth
through seventh, respectively, one lap down.
Hoosier's ARCA Track Service Manager Doug Barnes, who attended the race,
had this to say about the event. "Our short
track tire performed great all day. Many observers may not be aware,
but we use a bias-ply tire at Salem." Barnes added, "We have
successfully used the same left ("12") and right side
("20") tires for several Salem races. Barnes concluded,
"On behalf of the entire Hoosier organization, I would like to
extend my congratulations to Frank Kimmel on his victory and also to
Jason Jarrett and Billy Venturini on their strong runs."
The next race on the ARCA RE/MAX schedule is at
Kentucky Speedway on May 8.
Hoosier is the official tire of the ARCA RE/MAX
Series.
