KANSAS
CITY, KS (April 27, 2007) -- Scott Lagasse led the final four laps of the
rain-delayed ARCA RE/MAX Series Kansas Lottery $150 Grand race at Kansas
Speedway on Friday to earn his first career victory in the series. The
26-year-old driver captured the win in just his 12th series start leading 35 of
the race's 100 laps. It appears the 2007 season may match last year's amazing
start. Last season, the series enjoyed eight different winners before eventual
champion Frank Kimmel became the series' first repeat winner.
On
Friday, forty-three cars were on hand for qualifying at Kansas Speedway. Justin
Marks earned his first career pole while setting a new track record in
qualifying. The Rocklin, CA driver maneuvered his Crocs Dodge around the
1.5-mile tri-oval in 31.323 seconds (172.397 mph). Bobby Santos III, driving a
Toyota for Bill Davis Racing, was next quickest at 31.773 (169.956 mph)
followed closely by Scott Lagasse at 31, 777 (169.934
mph). After a 2-hour rain delay, the
race began under caution in an effort to help dry the track for racing. After
15 laps, the race went green. The exciting race had 12 leaders among eight
different drivers. Driving leading during the 100-lap
event included; Justin Marks 1-18, 61-63 (21), Bobby Santos III 19-29 (11),
Scott Lagasse 3-59, 94, 97-100 (35), Blake Feese 60 (1), Josh Wise 64 (1), Erin
Crocker 65-69 (5), Bobby Gerhart 70-75 (6) and Erik Darnell 76-93, 95-96
(20). After the 15-lap yellow-flag start, the race was
slowed just two times for cautions. In all, there were three cautions for a
total of 27 laps. With five laps to go, Erik Darnell was leading
after starting the race last in the 41-car starting grid. But
with four laps to go, Scott Legasse moved to the inside of Darnell to take the
lead (above photo) from the Beach Park, IL driver. Legasse, driving the Wayside
Waifs Humane Society Dodge, extended his lead at the finish to claim his
first-ever ARCA Series win. Erik Darnell settled for second
place followed by Blake Feese, Mario Gosselin and Josh Wise to round out the
top five. Justin Marks finished in sixth place followed by
Erin Crocker, Justin Allgaier, Bobby Gerhart and Dexter Bean in seventh through
tenth, respectively. Justin Allgaier (1205) extended his point
lead to 95 points in the driver standings over Frank Kimmel (1110) who finished
in 15th. Dexter Bean (1090) moves into third place in the rankings followed by
Phillip McGilton (1080) and Justin South (1045).
All of the ARCA RE/MAX Series competitors rode on radial tires
specifically manufactured by Hoosier. They were built with one inch of stagger
(between the left side and right side tires).
Hoosier has been the official tire provider to the ARCA RE/MAX
Series for the past 13 seasons.
All ARCA RE/MAX Series events are serviced out of Hoosier
headquarters in Lakeville, IN.
Will there be a sixth different
winner to start the season? We'll find out this weekend when the series returns
to action this Sunday (May 6) at Winchester Speedway in Winchester, IN.
