SALEM,
IN (May 1, 2011) -- Brennan Poole took advantage of his opportunity to compete
in the ARCA Racing Series by winning the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 at
Salem Speedway on Sunday. The 20-year-old Texan came from a lap down driving
the Venturini Motorsports #55 Chevrolet to capture the win.
Thirty-one cars were entered in
qualifying with previous race winner Ty Dillon capturing the pole. The
Talladega race winner's time was 17.509 seconds (114.113 mph) around the
.555-mile track. Brennan Poole was second with a time of 17.580 seconds
(113.652 mph).
The race began under caution due
to a light rain that had dampened the racing surface. However, after 20 caution
laps the race went green with Ty Dillon leading the first 79 laps.
The event featured seven race
leaders including; Ty Dillon 1-79 (79 laps), Max Gresham 80-103 (24 laps), Tom
Hessert 104-126, 171-175 (28 laps), Matt Merrell 127-155 (29 laps), Josh
Williams 156-170 (15 laps) and Brennan Poole 176-206 (31 laps).
After going a lap down early on,
Brennan Poole fought back to take the lead from Tom Hessert on lap 176. Poole
led the remainder of the distance to take the win in his first-ever series
start. The race was also extended six laps due to a late-race caution.
Despite all of this, Poole took
the win finishing .643 seconds ahead of pole-sitter Ty Dillon.
Poole commented after the win,
"I just feel blessed to be in this car and get the Venturinis to Victory
Lane. It's incredible! My first time at Salem, and my first time in an ARCA
car, and I've just got to thank God."
Frank Kimmel finished third
behind Dillon despite being involved in an accident earlier in the race.
Bryan Silas finished in fourth
place followed by Matt Merrell in fifth.
Josh Willaims and Tom Hessert finished
sixth and seventh and were the final two cars of the 29 starters to finish the
race on the lead lap.
The race had eight caution
periods for a total of 80 laps.
Hoosier is the Official Tire of
the ARCA Racing Series.
The ARCA Racing Series will take
a week off before returning to action, May 15, at Toledo Speedway.
