TOLEDO,
OH (May 15, 2011) -- While the weather might have been cold for the ARCA Racing
Series Menards 200 at Toledo Speedway on Sunday, the tempers were red
hot after the race.
That's because in the closing
laps Frank Kimmel looked to be in position to claim his first win in 48 races
before rookie Ty Dillon made contact with the series veteran sending the
nine-time series champion spinning.
Dillon went on to take the win
but Kimmel was waiting in victory lane for the young driver.
Kimmel, who ended up finishing
ninth, snatched the checkered flag from Dillon and threw it to the ground while
helping the rookie take down his window net for a little chat.
After the exchange Kimmel
stated, "I just asked him, how can you celebrate a win like that?"
Kimmel added, "It'll come back. It's a long season and we have to race all
year."
Like much of the country the
weather in the area was damp, cold and breezy which washed out
qualifying.
Thirty-one cars started the race
which began under caution to help further dry the track.
The race featured seven leaders
among five different drivers. Leaders during the event included; Frank Kimmel
1-21, 37-77, 126-188 (125 laps), Kenzie Ruston 22-36 (15 laps), Grant Enfinger
78-112 (35 laps), Matt Crafton 113-125 (13 laps) and Ty Dillon 189-200 (12
laps).
The race, which included plenty
of short-track action, had 13 cautions for a total of 87 laps--including the
first 20 laps to dry the track.
In the end it was Ty Dillon
coming from 24th to capture the win by .291 seconds over Grant Enfinger who
started 11th.
Matt Merrell finished in third
place followed by Tim George, Jr. and Chris Buescher to round out the top five.
The ARCA Racing Series returns
to action this Sunday, May 22, at New Jersey Motorsports Park.
The race at New Jersey
Motorsports Park is the only road course event on the series' 19-race schedule.
