TOLEDO,
OH (May 17, 2009) -- Parker Kligerman looked more like a seasoned veteran
rather than an 18-year-old up-and-comer Sunday at Toledo Speedway. The ARCA
RE/MAX Series rookie, who is still a senior in high school, led the final 85
laps en route to winning the Menards 200. It was Kligerman's first
career ARCA Series win while making just his eighth series start. Kligerman is
now the series' fifth different winner in the six races contested to
date.
With rain washing out Saturday qualifying, the starting grid for Sunday's
race was set by car owners points.
On Sunday afternoon, the skies cleared and 34 cars took the green flag on
Toledo's 1/2-mile oval.
The spectacular short-track race featured four leaders among three different
drivers.
Justin Lofton led the first 76 laps before Kenny Schrader took his turn out
front. Schrader led 27 circuits before Lofton regained the lead over the
veteran driver. Lofton held on to the lead until lap 121, when Parker Kligerman
took over as the race leader.
Kligerman, who started seventh, defended his leader status despite several
late race cautions which extended the race to 205 laps.
Kligerman ultimately took the win by .340 seconds over series points leader
Justin Lofton in an exiting green-white-checker finish.
Tom Hessert finished in third place followed by Paul Menard in fourth and
Matt Merrell in fifth.
The race was slowed by cautions 16 times for a total of 86 laps.
The ARCA RE/MAX Series will take a few weeks off before
returning to action June 6, at Pocono Raceway.
Hoosier is proud to be the exclusive tire supplier to the ARCA RE/MAX
Series.
