RAIN FORCES ARCA SERIES TO TEST COMPETITORS
WITH TWO RACES ON TWO CONSECUTIVE NIGHTS

5-29-03

Frank Kimmel is HOT in the ARCA RE/MAX Series (shown here after an earlier season win)LAKEVILLE, IN (May 29) -- Rain forced the ARCA RE/MAX Series to contest the ADG 100 at North Carolina's Lowe's Motor Speedway on Friday instead of Thursday. Which meant the competitors had just completed one race only to load up and travel roughly 800 miles to Michigan for the Pork The Other White Meat 200 at Berlin Raceway. When the exhausting journey had ended, defending series champion Frank Kimmel had won both races. The first race in North Carolina he won from the pole and had to come from seventh to capture the win the following night in Michigan. Kimmel's season started somewhat "unKimmellike" given the fact that it took the talented veteran five races to capture his first win of the season. But since then, the multi-year series champion has three wins and one runner-up finish in the last four events. Hoosier is the exclusive supplier of tires to the ARCA RE/MAX Series.

ADG 100
CONCORD, NC (May 23) -- Thirty-nine cars took the green flag Friday morning for the ADG 100 at Lowe's Motor Speedway after rain forced the postponement of the race from Thursday. As a result of the rain washing out qualifying, the cars lined up by points placing Frank Kimmel on the pole with Billy Venturini alongside.

Frank Kimmel led the first 37 laps before giving way to Clay Rogers who was making his first ARCA Series start. Rogers maintained the lead until a late race caution set up an 8-lap dash to the finish. That is when Kimmel, who was third on the restart, made a 3-wide pass of Clay Rogers and Jeff Fultz to take the lead on lap 60. From there the wily veteran defended the top spot to take the checkered flag on lap 67.

Following Kimmel to the finish line was 34th starting Jeff Fultz from Ohio. Fultz was followed by 33rd starting Jeremy Clements making only his fifth series start. It was a career-best finish for the nineteen-year-old. Amazingly, the fourth and fifth place finishers also started back in the field. Casey Mears took fourth after starting 31st, while A.J. Henriksen rounded out the top five after starting 32nd.

PORK THE OTHER WHITE MEAT 200
MARNE, MI (May 24) -- The ARCA Series was forced to quickly gather itself from Friday's race and travel some 800 miles northwest to Michigan's Berlin Raceway. Not only that, but the competitors went from racing on the 1.5-mile oval of Lowe's to the .438-mile Berlin track. But the teams in the series were up to the challenge once again with 34 teams taking the checkered flag.

Fred Campbell won the Old Milwaukee Pole Award for recording the fastest lap in qualifying. The Battle Creek, Michigan driver was clocked at 17.169 seconds for an average speed of 91.840 mph. Joining Campbell in the front row was West Olive, Michigan's Billy Shotko.

The race featured six different race leaders. Among them were Fred Campbell (1-15), Billy Venturini (16-73, 99-114), Andy Ponstein (74-98), Frank Kimmel (115-145, 155-200), Shelby Howard (146-150) and Billy Shotko (151-154). Seventh starting Frank Kimmel led the final 46 laps en route to the win--his third of the season, all coming in the last four events.

Following Kimmel to the finish line was fourth starting Brent Sherman followed by Ron Cox, Billy Venturini and Andy Ponstein. The race was slowed by six cautions for a total of 41 laps.

On the heels of his two recent wins, Frank Kimmel (2125) extends his ARCA Series points lead over Jason Jarrett (1805) to 320 points. Billy Venturini, Ron Cox and Shelby Howard round out the top five in the standings.

The ARCA RE/MAX Series will return to action on June 1st, at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, KS.
