LONG POND. PA (June 6, 2009) -- Joey Logano notched his second career ARCA
RE/MAX Series win Saturday afternoon while making just his fourth series start. The
Sprint Cup Series rookie dominated the race leading twice for 52 of 80 race
laps. The extra seat time was helpful in the young driver's effort on Sunday in
which he finished 23rd in the 500-mile Cup race.
Thirty-seven drivers took the green flag Saturday with the starting grid set
by owners points after rain washed out qualifying. This put Justin Lofton and
Matt Merrell on the front row.
The race featured six leaders among five different drivers. Among those who
led during the 80-lap race included; Justin Lofton 1-14 (14 laps), Joey Logano
15-34, 48-80 (52 laps), Bryan Silas 35 (1 lap), Steve Arpin 36-39 (4 laps) and
Parker Kligerman 40-48 (9 laps).
The race was slowed five times for cautions for a total of 27 laps. Several
of the cautions were the result of tire issue revolving around low air pressure
settings.
Teams and drivers are reminded that minimum recommended pressures provided
by Hoosier, both in advance and at the track, should be followed for safety
reasons.
Logano took the win by 1.996 seconds over the pole-sitter Justin Lofton.
Lofton was followed to the line by Patrick Sheltra, Joey Coulter and Matt
Merrell to round out the list of top five finishers.
With his runner-up finish, Justin Lofton now holds a commanding 95-point
lead in the driver standings over Parker Kligerman who finished sixth in
Saturday's race. Frank Kimmel is in third place--210 points out of the
lead.
The ARCA RE/MAX Series returns to action this Friday, June 12, at Michigan
International Speedway.
The race will be broadcast LIVE on SPEED at 5:00 PM (ET).
