POCONO,
PA (June 9, 2007) -- After ten races, the ARCA RE/MAX Series finally has
a repeat winner. On Saturday at Pocono Raceway, Chad McCumbee came from a lap
down to capture his second win of the season. Back in April, the 22-year-old
driver won at Nashville in a Chevy. This time, McCumbee drove the Victory
Junction Gang Petty Enterprises Dodge from a lap down after cutting down a left
front tire to capture the win. McCumbee would also compete on Sunday in the
Nextel Cup race driving for Kyle Petty who was announcing the race for TNT. The
youngster would finish Sunday's race on the lead lap in 25th place.
Forty-four
cars traveled to scenic Pocono Raceway vying for one of the 41 starting
positions. In qualifying, Tim Andrews earned the pole for the Saturday's race
after circling the 2.5-mile tri-oval in 54.602 seconds (164.829 mph). David
Reutimann was second fastest followed by Jeremy Clements, Bryan Silas and Chad
McCumbee. The 80-lap race featured 12 leaders among nine
different drivers. Those leading during the event included; Tim Andrews 1-8
(8), Chad McCumbee 9, 76-80 (6), Bryan Silas 10-16, 38-45 (15), Justin Marks
17-27 (11), Dexter Bean 28-34, 64-75 (19), Frank Kimmel 35-37 (3), Michael
McDowell 46-58 (13), Phillip McGilton 59-61 (3) and Mario Gosselin 62-63 (2).
The race was slowed seven times for a total of 34 laps. McCumbee,
after falling a lap down, came back to take the lead from Dexter Bean with four
laps to go en route to the win. Bean finished in second place 2.792 seconds
behind the winner. Pole-sitter Tim Andrews finished in third followed by Jeremy
Clements and Mario Gosselin to round out the top five. McCumbee
commented after the race, "I can't thank everybody enough from Petty
Enterprises. Those guys are unbelievable." Michael
McDowell finished sixth followed by Frank Kimmel, Justin Allgaier, Josh Wise
and Bobby Gerhart in seventh through tenth, respectively. Jason
Hedelsky finished in 11th, after starting 28th, to win the Hoosier Tire Hard
Charger Award for advancing the most positions.
In the driver standings, Frank Kimmel leads Justin Allgaier by
110 points heading into this weekend's race at Michigan International Speedway. The
race will be broadcast LIVE on SPEED beginning at 5 p.m. (ET) on Friday, June
15, 2007.
All the competitors rode on radial tires manufactured by
Hoosier which has been the official tire of the ARCA RE/MAX Series the past 13
seasons.
