On Friday, South Bend, Indiana's David Stremme (photo) won the Pork Pole Award for Saturday's ARCA RE/MAX Series race. The Nextel Cup rookie was looking to gather information for Sunday's race by way of the additional seat time in Saturday's ARCA race. As a result of the new rules in Nextel Cup limiting the amount of testing the teams can do, the ARCA Series is enjoying even more popularity on tracks common to both series. In the ARCA RE/MAX race, rookie Chase Miller won the "Pocono 200" after crashing his car in qualifying and starting 34th in the field of 40 starters. The 19-year-old driver was running his first-ever race at the famed tri-oval. Miller became the series' seventh different winner in seven races contested in 2006. Interestingly, another rookie, Denny Hamlin, won the Nextel Cup race on Sunday running his first-ever race at the 2.5-mile track. Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. is proud to be in its 12th consecutive season as the exclusive tire provider for the ARCA RE/MAX Series.

Fifty cars were entered for the scheduled 80-lap race with 40 cars posting times in qualifying. David Stremme won the Pork Pole Award as the event's fastest qualifier. It was his first career pole in the series. Stremme circled the 2.5-mile tri-oval in 54.992 seconds (163.660 mph).

Stremme commented, "If I don't win I'll probably be in big trouble. And it's not taking anything away from those guys that run in the ARCA series, but I'm running my cup car, we just put a bigger blade on it and some Hoosier tires."

Canada's Mario Gosselin was second fastest with a time of 55.696 (161.591 mph) with rookie Justin Allgaier, Dexter Bean and Frank Kimmel rounding out the top five in qualifying.

The race featured 11 leaders among seven different drivers including; Mario Gosselin (1-10, 24-39, 58-69), Dexter Bean (11-13), Justin Allgaier (14-15), Jeremy Clements (16-23, 50-51), Chase Miller (40-44, 70-88), AJ Henriksen (45-49), Brent Sherman (52-57).

The race was scheduled for 80 laps, but cautions extended the length of the race to 88 laps. There were nine cautions for a total of 49 laps in the caution-marred race with 14 of the 40 starters finishing on the lead lap.

Brent Sherman was third followed by AJ Henrikson, Bobby Gerhart, Ken Weaver, Damon Lusk, Ryan Howard, Chuck Weber, and Brett Rowe in fourth through tenth, respectively.

Justin Allgaier, son of Hoosier Tire Midwest owners Mike and Dorothy Allgaier, finished 15th after leading the race, while seven-time and defending ARCA RE/MAX Series champion Frank Kimmel finished 16th.

Pole sitter David Stremme's day ended early when transmission troubles forced him to retire from the race after only two laps. Stremme was credited with finishing in 40th place.

After seven (of 23) events, fifth place finisher Bobby Gerhart remains atop the driver standings with 1595 points. Frank Kimmel remains in second place with 1495 points, while Damon Lusk (1450) jumps from fifth to third with his seventh place finish. TJ Bell (1440) and Billy Venturini (1360) round out the top five.

All the ARCA competitors raced on Hoosier's 12.0/28.0-15 radial tires used on superspeedway tracks. The cars used 5120 left side and 5755 right side tires with one inch of stagger.

All ARCA Series events are serviced out of Hoosier headquarters in Lakeville, IN. The service team for the Pocono event included; Doug Barnes (track service manager), Rick Tostevin (engineer), Dave Wroblewski (crew chief), Larry Merrill, Chad Wright and Fred Awald (mounting), JP Malone (balancing) and Mike Haenes (tire preparations and tire temperatures).

The ARCA RE/MAX Series is back in action Friday, June 16th, at Michigan International Speedway. The race is scheduled to be carried LIVE on SPEED Channel beginning at 5:00 pm (ET).
