ARCA ROOKIE JUSTIN LOFTON WINS AT M.I.S.

Justin Lofton a winner at Michigan International Speedway (Photo courtesy of www.arcaracing.com)BROOKLYN, MI (June 14, 2008) -- Justin Lofton led the final 11 laps en route to winning the ARCA RE/MAX Series' Racing For Wildlife 200 at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday. The California rookie also becomes the ARCA Series' eighth different winner in the nine events contested so far this season. 

Forty-five cars were entered for the race with 41 posting times in qualifying. Scott Speed won the pole for the event as the fastest qualifier circling the 2-mile superspeedway in 38.895 seconds (185.114 mph). Justin Lofton was second quickest with a time of 39.133 seconds (183.988 mph). 

The race was scheduled to start Friday afternoon at 5:00 PM, but rain postponed the start until Saturday morning. 

The race featured eight leaders among five different drivers. Leaders during the event included; Scott Speed 1-14 (14 laps), Brian Scott 15-22, 26-30 (13 laps), Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. 23-25, 60-67 (11 laps), Sean Caisse 31-59, 68-89 (51) and Justin Lofton 90-100 (11 laps).  

At the finish, Justin Lofton took the lead from Sean Caisse with just 11 laps to go. Lofton, in the #20 Lofton Cattle Dodge, held off previous race winner Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. to take the win by 1.850 seconds at the stripe.

Stenhouse, who started 21st, was followed to the line by Frank Kimmel who started 15th. Pole-sitter Scott Speed finished in fourth followed by Brian Scott in fifth. 

In all, 18 of the 41 race starters finished the race on the lead lap. 

In the season-long points battle, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., increased his lead in the driver standings to 95 points. Stenhouse has been on a roll of late. He has two wins and a runner-up finish in three of his last four starts. 

Scott Speed jumps from third to second (1920) in the standings after yet another top-ten finish. Matt Carter falls to third (1890) after finishing 12th, while defending series champion Frank Kimmel and John Wes Townley are fourth and fifth, respectively.
