ELKO,
MN (June 2, 2012) -- Brennan Poole was the latest ARCA Series driver to add his
name to the growing list of winners in 2012.
The Texas driver became the sixth different
winner in the six races contested this season in the series.
Poole led twice for a total of 148 of 200 laps
in the Akona 200 at Elko Speedway Saturday night.
It was the second ARCA win of his career. His
first series win was last year at Salem when he made his ARCA Series
debut.
Twenty-eight cars were on hand in qualifying
with Alex Bowman capturing his third pole of the season with a time of 14.316
seconds (94.300 mph). The time set a new track record at the 3/8-mile facility.
Matt Lofton was second followed by Erik Jones,
Chris Buescher and Brennan Poole to round out the top five in qualifying.
The 200-lap race featured five leaders among
four different drivers. Those leading during the event included; Alex Bowman
1-8 (8 laps), Matt Lofton 9-11 (3 laps), Brennan Poole 12-92, 134-200 (148 laps)
and Frank Kimmel 93-133 (41 laps).
The race was dominated by Poole who crossed the
finish line 1.205 seconds ahead of Matt Lofton.
Poole commented after the race, "The car
was really good. It's pretty awesome to win the inaugural race at Elko."
Chris Buescher finished in third followed by
Frank Kimmel and Tom Hessert in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Despite this being the first time the series has
competed at Elko Speedway in its 60-year history, there were just four cautions
for a total of 26 laps. As a result, the race was completed in just 1 hour and
4 seconds.
Trackside sales and service for the event was
provided by Hoosier's track service crew consisting of David Wroblewski, Rick
Tostevin, Kevin Wroblewski, Chad Wright and Mike Haenes.
Unofficially, Brennan Poole regains the lead in
the drivers standings (1410) over Tom Hessert (1400). Chris Buescher is in
third place in the standings with 1395 points.
The ARCA Series is back in action this Saturday,
June 9, at Pocono Raceway. It is the first of two stops the series will make at
the picturesque 2.5-mile track.
The race will be broadcast on a same-day tape
delay basis beginning at 2:30 PM on SPEED.
