NELLES
CORNERS, ONTARIO (June 29, 2008) -- Justin Allgaier came back from an early-race
spin to win the inaugural Cayuga ARCA 250 at Cayuga Motor Speedway on
Sunday. It was Allgaier's second win of the season in the ARCA RE/MAX Series.
After ten races, Allgaier joins Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. as the only repeat winners
this season.
Passports in hand, 34 teams made the trip north to race on Cayuga Motor
Speedway's 5/8-mile track.
Coming off his win in Michigan, Justin Lofton set fast time in qualifying
with a lap of 20.424 seconds (110.165 mph) earning the Californian his first
career pole.
The race featured eight leaders among six different drivers. Leaders during
the race included; Justin Lofton, 1-28 (28 laps), James Buescher, 29-81 (53
laps), Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., 82-89, 123-215 (101 laps) Patrick Sheltra, 90-100
(11 laps), Tom Hessert III, 101-107 (7 laps), Justin Allgaier, 108-122, 216-257
(57 laps).
The short track race had its share of cautions--18 in all, for 106 laps. In
fact, the race was lengthened an additional seven laps to accommodate a green
flag finish.
Justin Allgaier led twice during the race. It was during his first stint out
front that Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. made contact with Allgaier's #16 Chevrolet
sending him for a spin and knocking him from the lead on lap 123.
After two pits stops under caution, Allgaier rejoined the race at the rear
of the field. The Springfield, IL driver then battled his way back to
ultimately retake the lead from Stenhouse on lap 216.
From there, Allgaier led the remainder of the way to capture the win by
1.166 seconds over runner-up Frank Kimmel. Stenhouse finished in third followed
by Dexter Bean and Ontario's Pete Shepherd to round out the top five.
Matt Carter finished in sixth place followed by Tom Hessert III, Scott
Speed, John Wes Townley and Mike Harmon in seventh through tenth,
respectively.
Amazingly, Scott Speed came from five (5) laps down to finish in eighth and
on the lead lap.
Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. continues to lead in the driver standings with 2490
points followed by Scott Speed (2360), Matt Carter (2340), Frank Kimmel (2315)
and John Wes Townley (2200). Justin Allgaier moves into sixth place with the
win.
The ARCA RE/MAX Series takes a few weeks off before returning to action on
