ARCA RE/MAX SERIES
KANSAS CITY, KS (June 1) -- Frank Kimmel led four times for a total of
99 of the 134 race laps en route to capturing his fourth win in six
events thus far in 2002.
Kimmel started the race from the pole position after
collecting the Old Milwaukee Pole Award after qualifying at 33.278
seconds (162.269 mph) on the 1.5-mile speedway . Kimmel led the final
31 laps in capturing the win--1.720 seconds ahead of runner-up Stuart
Kirby.
Eight of the 38 starters finished the race on the lead
lap. Damon Lusk, Chad Blount, Andy Belmont, Mark Gibson, Shelby Howard
and Mike Duncan finished third through eighth, respectively.
Todd Bowsher won the Hoosier Performance Tire Hard
Charger Award for advancing the most positions. Bowsher finished in
15th place after starting 31st in the field.
Jeff Speer, ARCA and Winston West Product Manager, was on hand to monitor the performance of Hoosier's new compound radials for Kansas Speedway.
Speer commented, "We are very pleased at the outcome of both races. I was encouraged to see the Winston West race run 53 green laps without any tire issues."
Speer continued, "The teams had to work hard this week to setup their cars with the tougher, less traction compounds. Last year, we had a heat
and blistering issue, so we tested in March and came with a heat resistant tire setup that worked flawlessly.
Speer concluded, "By having tires removed from the racing
equation the teams could focus on car set-up, fuel mileage and pit stops."
Frank Kimmel continues to lead in the ARCA RE/MAX
Series standings with 1815 points. Chad Blount is in second place with
1710 points followed closely by Damon Lusk with 1700 points.
The next stop for the series is this Saturday at the
2.5-mile Pocono Raceway in Pocono, PA.
