POND, PA (June 7) -- Continued rainy weather in the east forced the
ARCA RE/MAX Series to postpone Saturday's ARCA Giant 200 at Pocono
Raceway until July 25th. The series was scheduled to return to Pocono
on Saturday, July 26th, but now, the series will run two consecutive
races on Friday and Saturday in late July. Qualifying for the
Saturday's postponed race was completed on Thursday for the ARCA Giant
200 race with California's Casey Mears capturing the pole with a time
of 53.003 seconds (169.802 mph) around the 2.5-mile oval. Defending
ARCA Series champion and current points leader Frank Kimmel was second
in qualifying with a lap of 54.043 seconds (166.534 mph), while
previous race winner, Shelby Howard, was fifth fastest in
qualifying.
Thirty-eight cars were entered in the ARCA Giant 200
on Saturday, but those competitors will now have to wait until July
25th to determine the latest ARCA winner. The starting grid will be
lined up according to Thursday's qualifying. The race will be
contested following Winston Cup qualifying.
Hoosier's Track Service Manager for the ARCA Series is
Doug Barnes. Barnes attended the soggy weekend in Pocono as did the
entire track service crew which included engineer Rick Tostevin, tire
"busters" Dave Wroblewski, Mike Haenes, Chad Wright, Tom
Carter, Eddie Ashworth and Larry "Toots"
Merrill.
The next stop on the ARCA Series schedule is at Michigan
International Speedway this Saturday, June 14. The series will be
racing on Saturday, while the Winston Cup Series will be in competition
on Sunday. Indiana native and defending series champion Tony Stewart
was the Winston Cup Series race winner at Pocono on Sunday.
Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. is the exclusive tire
