SPARTA,
KY (July 18, 2008) -- The ARCA RE/MAX Series marked the halfway point of their
season Friday with a return trip to Kentucky Speedway. When it was over,
California's Scott Speed had won his second career ARCA RE/MAX Series race.
Speed started sixth and led 39 of 104 race laps en route to winning the ARCA
RE/MAX Series 150.
Forty-one cars were on hand with Brian Scott winning the pole for the race
as the event's fastest qualifier. Scott earned his first career pole after
circling the 1.5-mile Kentucky oval in 30.645 seconds (176.211 mph). Michael
Phelps was second quickest followed by Robb Brent, Matt Hawkins and Ricky
Stenhouse, Jr. Stenhouse was the winner in the first race at Kentucky back in
May.
The event featured nine leaders among five different drivers. Among those
leading the race included; Brian Scott 1-13 (13 laps), Ricky Stenhouse, Jr.
14-30, 48 (18 laps), Frank Kimmel 31-47 (17 laps), Scott Speed 49-53, 58-79,
93-104 (39 laps), and Sean Caisse 54-57, 80-92 (17 laps). The race also had 10
cautions for a total of 53 laps.
The race was decided when Scott Speed took the lead for the third and final
time from Sean Caisse with 12 laps to go. Speed, driving Eddie Sharp Racing's
Red Bull #2 Toyota, led the remainder of the way to take the win. The
California driver had to fend off Caisee on the race's final restart with just
one lap to go.
Speed's win was even more impressive given he ran the last 86 laps of the
race without pitting for (Hoosier) tires or fuel.
Sean Caisse settled for second place after starting 16th--.541 seconds
behind Speed at the finish. Justin Allgaier finished in third place followed by
Frank Kimmel and polesitter Brian Scott to round out the top five.
Despite a 13th place finish, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. remains atop the ARCA
RE/MAX Series driver standings with 2660 points. With the win, Scott Speed
moves into second place with 2595 points. Matt Carter falls to third (2535)
followed by Frank Kimmel (2530) and Justin Allgaier (2375) to round out the top
five in the driver standings.
The ARCA RE/MAX Series resumes action this Saturday, July 26, at Berlin
Raceway in Marne, MI. At this event, the ARCA competitors will again be using
Hoosier's newly developed short track radial now used in the series.
Hoosier has proudly been the official tire of the ARCA RE/MAX Series for 14
consecutive seasons.
