MARNE,
MI (July 20) -- Nine-time Berlin Raceway track champion Fred Campbell
earned his first career ARCA RE/MAX win after taking the checkered
flag in the Pork The Other White Meat 200 on Saturday. Campbell pitted
only once for fuel and tires during the 200-lap race which proved to
be the difference for the Battle Creek, Michigan driver. Chad Blount
finished runner-up just .158 seconds behind Campbell. Frank Kimmel
rounded out the top three.
Thirty-four cars started the 200-lap event. Previous
race winner Chad Blount won the Old Milwaukee Pole Award after
circling the 7/16-mile track in 17.444 seconds (90.392 mph). Fred
Campbell joined the rookie on the front row to start the race.
Blount used his inside starting position to jump into
the early race lead over Campbell. Blount led three different times
before Campbell moved back into the race lead for the second and final
time on lap 178. Campbell led the remaining 23 laps en route to the
win. Blount finished in second place by mere inches. The margin of
victory was a scant .158 seconds.
Current ARCA Series points leader Frank Kimmel took
third place with 11 of the 34 starters finishing on the lead lap.
Rounding out the list of lead-lap finishers were:
Chris Moore (4th), Mark Gibson (5th), Chase Montgomery (6th), Ron Cox
(7th), Todd Bowsher (8th), Randy Van Zant (9th), Jason Jarrett (10th)
and Billy Venturini (11th).
Chad Blount led three times for 79 laps, while
Campbell led twice for 72 circuits. Frank Kimmel also led twice for 12
laps and Billy Venturini also led once during the race for a total of
37 laps.
Todd Bowsher won the Hoosier Performance Tire Hard
Charger Award for advancing the most positions. Bowsher finished
eighth after starting 22nd.
Jeff Speer, Hoosier's ARCA Product Manager commented,
"This is ARCA's fourth stop to a short track event and the tires
ran great all night. If a competitor had their car balanced, they
would only need to pit once for a fresh set of tires. With the
combination of ARCA's tire rule of allowing teams to have a limited
amount of tires in their pits and the durable compounds Hoosier
brings, a short track event is very economical for the
competitors." Speer added, "We see a lot of new competitors
racing with the ARCA series at the short track events. Overall, the
car counts have been very strong this year. Hoosier is very proud to
be associated with the ARCA RE/MAX Series."
Frank Kimmel continues to lead the ARCA RE/MAX Series
with 3290 points followed by rookie Chad Blount with 3185 points.
Damon Lusk, Jason Jarrett and Chase Montgomery round out the top five
in points.
The series now moves from one of the smallest tracks
(7/16-mile) it competes on to one of the largest (2.50-mile) in Pocono
Raceway in Long Pond, PA. The race is scheduled for this Saturday,
July 27th.
Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. is the exclusive tire
supplier to the ARCA RE/MAX Series.
