SOUTH
BOSTON, VA (July 3) -- NASCAR Winston Cup veteran Ken Schrader led 177
of 200 laps in capturing the ARCA RE/MAX Series Big Daddy's Liberty
200 at South Boston Speedway this past Wednesday. The win was
Schrader's 9th in 25 starts in the competitive series.
Thirty-one cars started the race with Ken Schrader on
the pole after posting fast time in qualifying. Schrader circled the
.4-mile track in 16.067 seconds (89.625 mph). Schrader was joined in
the front row by rookie Chad Blount.
The race was dominated by Schrader who led 177 of the
200 race laps. Other race leaders were Damon Lusk (19 laps), Frank
Kimmel ( 1 lap) and Jason Jarrett (3 laps). Schrader's decision to pit
just once for fuel and tires was the difference in the race. Frank
Kimmel finished in second after pitting four times but was on
Schrader's bumper at the finish. Billy Venturini wound up in third and
completed the list of lead-lap finishers.
Bobby Gerhart and Chase Montgomery finished fourth and
fifth, respectively.
Hoosier ARCA Product Manager Jeff Speer commented,
"We are really happy with the performance of the short track spec
tire used in the ARCA RE/MAX Series. Normally teams will run a set for 100 laps and still expect good handling and tire wear."
Speer continued, "Really, the only tire concern the teams should have when competing in a short track event is running over debris. Racing tires can be easily punctured, even
something as small as a sheet metal pop rivet." Speer concluded,
"Hoosier has been using this combination for several years and plans
are to continue with this tire combination well into the future."
Frank Kimmel's second place finish combined with Damon
Lusk's 19th place finish was enough to propel the defending series
champion into the ARCA RE/MAX Series point lead with 2810 points. Lusk
falls to second with 2765 points. Chad Blount remains in third place
with 2695 points.
The ARCA RE/MAX Series resumes action this Friday,
July 12th, at Kentucky Motor Speedway.
Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. is proud to be the exclusive
provider of tires to the ARCA RE/MAX Series.
