NASHVILLE,
TN (August 9,2008) -- Scott Speed was in the right place at the right time on
Saturday in the Toyota 150 at Nashville Superspeedway. In the closing
laps, Speed had resigned himself to a solid third place finish following race
leader Justin Allgaier (#16) and Sean Caisse (#01) battle it out on a restart
with less than ten laps to go. As the race went green, contact was made between
Allgaier and Caisse sending Allgaier spinning (photo) out of the lead. Caisse
would lead two laps before Scott Speed made the pass for the lead and the
eventual win. It was Speed's fourth win in the ARCA RE/MAX Series this year.
Ironically, Allgaier appeared to be headed for his fourth win of the season
when disaster struck.
Forty-one cars were entered in qualifying with Ken Butler III posting the
fastest time. Butler circled the 1.33-mile track in 29.476 seconds (162.804
mph). Sean Caisse was second fastest at 29.557 seconds (162.357 mph) followed
by James Buescher, Justin Allgaier and Scott Speed.
The race featured six leaders among three different drivers including; Sean
Caisse 1-51, 56-96, 108-109 (94 laps), Justin Allgaier 52-55, 97-107 (15 laps)
and Scott Speed 110-117 (8 laps).
The race was scheduled to be 113 laps, but a late-race caution added four
more circuits to the event giving the fans an exciting finish. The race was
slowed a total of eight times for 37 laps.
With less than ten to go, the race went green again after a late caution. As
the field was coming up to speed, contact was made between race leader Justin
Allgaier and second place Sean Caisse which sent the race leader spinning.
Allgaier was able to gather his machine without contacting the wall with Caisse
assuming the lead.
Caisse would lead two laps before Scott Speed made his way into the lead.
Speed led the remainder of the way to notch his fourth win of the season.
Jeremy Clements finished in second place followed by Brian Scott, Matt
Hawkins and Justin Lofton.
After his spin, Justin Allgaier fell back to finish 8th, while Sean Caisse finished
16th after another on-track altercation on the race's final lap.
Scott Speed extends his lead in the driver rankings to 140 points. Speed is
followed by Matt Cater (3135) Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. (3130), Justin Allgaier
(3050) and Frank Kimmel (2960) in the standings.
Frank Kimmel started the race but gave up his seat to his nephew Will Kimmel
at the race's first caution. Kimmel, on the advice of his physician, exited the
#44 as a result of his injuries in a three-car crash last weekend at
Pocono.
Will Kimmel finished the race a very commendable 19th while maintaining his
uncle's fifth spot in the driver rankings.
