LONG
POND, PA (August 1, 2009) -- Justin Lofton won Saturday's Pocono ARCA 200 and
finds himself just 20 points out of first place in the ARCA RE/MAX Series
driver standings behind
Parker Kligerman. Lofton posted his second consecutive win and third of the
season leading 65 of 82 laps. It was his fourth career ARCA Series win.
With rain washing out qualifying, the field was set by owner points which
put Lofton on the pole with 5-race winner Kligerman alongside.
Forty-one drivers took the green flag Saturday in a race that featured seven
leaders among four different drivers.
Among those leading during the event included; Justin Lofton 1-29, 37, 48-82
(65 laps), Parker Kligerman 30-36 (7 laps), Steve Arpin 38-41, 43-47 (9 laps)
and Craig Goess 42 (1 lap).
As the race neared its close, Parker Kligerman had fought his way back from
the rear of the field after several unscheduled pit stops.
Much to the delite of those in attendance, Kligerman charged from the back
of the field to find himself in third place with less than five laps to go.
Kligerman then made a pass on Steve Arpin who was in second at the
time.
Kligerman made the pass without incident and was closing fast on Lofton when
Arpin made contact with him sending him into the wall and causing serious
damage to his #77 Dodge.
As a result of the crash, the race was extended to accommodate a
green-white-checker finish.
Lofton would go on to capture the win, while Kligerman settled for a 21st
place finish.
Matt Merrell finished in second place followed by Craig Goess, Steve Arpin
and Frank Kimmel in third through fifth, respectively.
The race was slowed six times for cautions for a total of 36 laps.
The ARCA RE/MAX Series takes two weeks off before returning to action on the
1-mile dirt oval at the Illinois State Fairgrounds on Sunday, August 23rd.
