NASHVILLE,
TN (August 12, 2006) -- Mario Gosselin came from a lap down to win Saturday's
"ARCA RE/MAX 200" at Nashville Superspeedway. The 33-year-old driver
becomes the 12th different driver to win this season in the 14 events contested
to date. Amazingly, only seven-time and defending series champion Frank Kimmel
has more than one win this season. Gosselin, from St. Marie, Quebec, Canada,
now has three career wins in the series. His first win came in 1999 as a rookie
making his first-ever series start. His second victory was at Nashville in
2003. Three years later, Gosselin won again driving the James Carter Attorney
at Law #12 Chevrolet. He led twice for 48 laps including the final 39 circuits
en route to his second Nashville win. All three of Gosselin's wins have been on
Hoosier tires since the Indiana-based company's tires have been the only brand
used in ARCA RE/MAX Series the past 12 years.
Fifty cars were on hand Saturday looking to capture one of the coveted 41
starting spots. In qualifying, Brad Coleman captured his third career Pork Pole
Award as the event's fastest qualifier. Coleman posted a time of 29.627 seconds
(161.974 mph) around the 1.333-mile concrete oval--a full two miles an hour
faster than the next fastest qualifier, Frank Kimmel. Erin Crocker was third
followed by Brandon Knupp and Mario Gosselin to round out the top five in
qualifying.
The 146-lap race featured 10 leaders among eight different drivers. Those
leading during the event included; Brad Coleman (1-52, 96-107), Mario Gosselin
(53-61, 108-146), Ryan Foster (62-63), Damon Lusk (64), Billy Venturini (65),
Jason Hedlesky (69-70) and Justin South (71-95). In addition to the 10 race
leaders, the race also had 10 cautions for a total of 52 laps.
After a late-race caution which set up a green-white-checker finish, Mario
Gosselin crossed the finish line.397 seconds ahead of Brent Sherman. Sherman
was followed by Brad Coleman, Billy Venturini and Damon Lusk to round out the
top five.
In addition to winning the pole, Brad Coleman adds another top five finish
to an already impressive resume for the 18-year-old developmental driver. In
eight starts this year, Coleman has one win, two second place finishes, three
third place finishes and a fifth place finish to his credit.
Scott Lagasse finished in sixth followed by Bobby Gerhart, Jason Hedlesky,
Jeremy Clements and Todd Hansen in seventh through tenth, respectively, with
eight of the 41 starters finishing the race on the lead lap.
Frank Kimmel finished the race in 13th place, but retains first place in the
driver standings by 35 points over Bobby Gerhart.
Hoosier's service team brought radial tires with one inch of stagger for the
Nashville race.
The Hoosier service team for the Nashville event included Doug Barnes
(service manager), Rick Tostevin (engineer), Dave Wroblewski (crew chief), with
mounting and balancing by Mike Haenes, Chad Wright, Derrik Duszynski, Rick Sisk
and Larry Merrill.
The ARCA RE/MAX Series
will be back in action this Friday, August 18th, when the series returns to
Michigan International Speedway. The race will be telecast LIVE on SPEED
beginning at 5:00 pm ET.
