It was Kimmel's first win since starting his own (#44) race team after winning nine championships driving the #46 car. The Clarksville, IN driver dominated the event leading 83 of 102 race laps en route to the win.

Kimmel started off the weekend by winning the pole for the event after setting a new track record in qualifying. Kimmel, one of 38 qualifiers, demolished the old record (33.402 seconds, 107.778 mph) set by Damon Lusk in 2006. Kimmel circled the 1-mile clay oval in 32.878 seconds (109.496 mph). It was also his first pole award of the 2008 season.

The race featured five leaders among four different drivers. Leaders during the event included; Ron Cox, 1-12 (12 laps), Dexter Bean 13-15 (3 laps), Frank Kimmel 16-26, 31-102 (83 laps) and Doug Keller 27-30 (4 laps).

In the end, it was Kimmel winning by .921 seconds over Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. Stenhouse was followed to the line by Brian Tyler, Matt Carter and Tyler Malsam.

Kimmel appears to have healed quite well from his injuries at Pocono, August 2, which caused him to get out of his car during last week's race at Nashville. His nephew, Will Kimmel, relieved the 9-time champion en route to a 19th place finish.

Justin Allgaier finished in sixth place followed by Tom Hessert III, Scott Speed, Springfield's own Kelly Kovski and Doug Keller to round out the top ten.

The race was slowed six times for cautions for a total of 32 laps.

With his runner-up finish Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. (3605) moved into second place in the driver rankings behind Scott Speed (3715), while Matt Carter falls from second to third (3595) in the standings. Justin Allgaier (3500) remains in fourth place while Frank Kimmel (3460) remains in fifth.
