 SPRINGFIELD,
IL (August 19, 2012) -- Frank Kimmel went nearly four years without a win
before finally tasting victory at Lucas Oil Raceway in late July.
After that long drought, the 9-time ARCA Series
champion made it two wins in less than a month leading 51 of 100 laps in the Allen
Crowe 100 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds Sunday afternoon.
More importantly for the veteran driver, he
vaults into second place in the points chase. Kimmel is now just 15 points out
of first place with four races remaining in the 2012 season.
Thirty-five cars were entered in qualifying with
32 cars posting times. Alex Bowman, who has three wins this year, won the pole
for the race with the fastest time in qualifying.
Bowman circled the 1-mile clay oval in 33.183
seconds (108.489 mph). Bowman was followed by Kevin Swindell who posted a time
of 33.356 seconds (107.927 mph).
The 100-lap race had just three cautions for a
total of 13 laps.
The race also featured six leaders among four
different drivers. Leaders during the event included; Alex Bowman 1-10, 77-86
(20 laps), Kelly Kovski 11-14 (4 laps), Kevin Swindell 15-39 (25 laps) and
Frank Kimmel 40-76, 87-100 (51 laps).
Kimmel, who started 10th, finished 5.087 seconds
ahead of pole-sitter Alex Bowman.
Kevin Swindell, who started the race alongside
Bowman, finished in third followed by Kelly Kovski and Chris Buescher in fourth
and fifth, respectively.
Overall, it was Frank Kimmel's eighth win at the
Springfield mile.
Chris Buescher maintains the top spot in the
driver rankings (3975) with Frank Kimmel leaping into second place just 15
points behind Buescher.
The ARCA Series travels next to Madison (WI)
International Speedway this Sunday, August 26, for the Herr's Live Life with
Flavor 200.
