(Photo courtesy of www.arcaracing.com)BROOKLYN, MI & SPRINGFIELD, IL (August 18 & 20, 2006) -- The season-to-remember in the ARCA RE/MAX Series got even more memorable this past weekend. For the second season in a row, the popular series raced at Michigan International Speedway on Friday afternoon and the Illinois State Fairgrounds on Sunday. When the grueling weekend was finally over, two new drivers added their names to the list of ARCA RE/MAX Series winners in 2006. On Friday, Brent Sherman captured his first career win after leading 10 of the 105 race laps. Sherman, riding on Hoosier radials, won the "Hantz Group 200" on the 2-mile Michigan International Speedway. Then, after packing up the haulers, the teams traveled some 400 miles to Springfield, IL for the "Allen Crowe 100" on the 1-mile clay oval at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. Hometown favorite, Justin Allgaier (photo), won Sunday's race while riding on Hoosier bias-ply tires. In front of a cheering crowd, Allgaier led just one lap in the 100-lap race, but it was the one that counted. It was also Allgaier's first career win in the ARCA RE/MAX Series. Amazingly, there have now been 14 different winners in the 16 events contested to date in the series. Hoosier is the official tire of the ARCA RE/MAX Series and has been the only tire brand used the past 12 seasons.

BRENT SHERMAN WINS AT MICHIGAN

(Photo courtesy of www.arcaracing.com)BROOKLYN, MI (August 18, 2006) -- A huge 53-car field was entered for Friday afternoon's "Hantz Group 200" at Michigan International Speedway with 48 drivers posting times in qualifying. Brent Sherman won the Pork Pole Award as the fastest qualifier when he circled the 2-mile oval in 39.003 seconds (184.601 mph). Last year's winner, Steven Wallace was second with a time of 39.379 seconds (183.839 mph). Frank Kimmel, Brad Coleman and Pete Shepard rounded out the top five in qualifying.

Forty-one cars took the green flag shortly after 5:00 pm Friday. The 105-lap race featured leaders among seven different drivers. Race leaders included; Brent Sherman (1-4, 100-105), Steven Wallace (5-34, 40-65), Burney Lamar (35-39, 82-98), Mike Harmon (66), Scott Lagasse (67-73), Frank Kimmel (74-81) and TJ Bell (99).

Seventeen of the 41 starters finished the race on the lead lap. The race was slowed just five times for cautions for a total of 32 laps.

On what was supposed to be the race's final lap, Frank Kimmel and TJ Bell made contact while fighting for the win in the final turn. The contact extended the race an additional five laps to accommodate a green-white-checkered finish.

The contact allowed Brent Sherman to emerge the leader and eventual race winner. It was the 32-year-old Sherman's first series win since he began competing in the ARCA RE/MAX Series in 2001.

Also with a career-best finish was Ryan Mathews in second place. Mathews, who started 12th, followed Sherman by 1.469 seconds at the finish line. Rookie Ryan Foster also posted a career-best finish claiming the third spot with Brian Kesolowski and Brad Coleman rounding out the top five. Cale Gale was sixth followed by Billy Venturini, Ryan Howard, Dexter Bean and Pete Shepard in seventh through tenth, respectively.

All the competitors rode on Hoosier 12.0/28.0-15 5140 (left side) and 12.0/28.0-15 5788 (right side) tires with one inch of stagger.  Michigan International Speedway is one of 14 stops on the ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule in which radial tires are used with Hoosier bias-ply tires being used at the other nine events.

(Photo courtesy of www.arcaracing.com)SPRINGFIELD, IL (August 20, 2006) -- On Sunday, 37 cars were entered for the "Allen Crowe 100" race at the 1-mile clay oval at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. In qualifying, Damon Lusk set a new track record with a time of 33.402 seconds (107.778 mph). Lusk broke the old record set by Justin Allgaier last year (33.423 seconds/107.710 mph).

The 100-lap race featured six race leaders among six different drivers including Damon Lusk (1-14), Frank Kimmel (15-22), Doug Keller (23-26), AJ Fike (27-57), Bob Strait (58-99) and Justin Allgaier (100).

On the final lap, Bob Strait and Justin Allgaier were battling for the win. Allgaier made the pass for the lead with Strait momentarily losing control. The bobble allowed Allgaier to capture his first career win in the series with Frank Kimmel and Mark Gibson also able to sneak by Strait at the line. Strait, who pitted just once for fuel, settled for a fourth place finish followed by Joe Cooksey in fifth.

Doug Keller wound up finishing sixth followed by Norm Benning, Damon Lusk, Billy Venturini and Mike Harmon to round out the top ten. The race was slowed nine times due to various cautions for a total of 39 laps with 17 of the 35 starters finishing the race on the lead lap.

An elated Justin Allgaier commented after the race, "Wow, I just can't express what it means to win here at Springfield. We had a lot of family and friends in the stands and in the pits, which makes this win that much sweeter." Allgaier added, "I have to thank my entire team, my family and especially my dad for all his help and support." Justin is the son of Mike and Dorothy Allgaier--owners of Hoosier Tire Midwest located in Springfield, IL.

Norm Benning, who finished in seventh place, won the Hoosier Tire Hard Charger Award for advancing the most positions after starting 20th.

All the competitors at Springfield used Hoosier's 11.0/88.0-15 D45 (left side) and 11.0/88.0-15 D70 (right side) bias-ply tires. Springfield is one of two dirt tracks the ARCA RE/MAX Series competes at on their 23-race schedule. The other is the DuQuion (IL) State Fairgrounds which is coming up on Labor Day.

With the win, Allgaier becomes the 14 different winner in the 16 events contested to date in the ARCA RE/MAX Series.

Frank Kimmel continues to lead the driver standings with 3715 points followed by Bobby Gerhart with 3585 points. Damon Lusk is in third place (3250) followed by Billy Venturini (3205) and Ryan Foster (3150) to round out the top five.

All ARCA Series events are serviced out of Hoosier headquarters in Lakeville, IN. Dave Wroblewski, Chad Wright and Larry Merrill were part of the Hoosier service team at both weekend events. Doug Barnes, Rick Tostevin, Mike Haenes, Derrik Duszynski, Chris Grossman and Jacob Hartle were also on hand at Michigan, while Fred Awald, Mark Curtis and Arik Ott rounded out the service team at Springfield.
