(Photo courtesy of www.arcaracing.com)LAKEVILLE, IN (August 22, 2005) -- The versatility of the ARCA RE/MAX Series competitors was on display this weekend as the series raced at the 2.0-mile Michigan International Speedway (MIS) on Friday and then quickly made the necessary changes to tackle the 1.0-mile dirt oval at the Illinois State Fairgrounds on Sunday. Friday's race at MIS was won by Steve Wallace using Hoosier radial tires. Wallace, who turned 18 one day earlier, is the son of NASCAR veteran Rusty Wallace. Both Rusty and Steve's uncle Kenny were in radio contact with the youngster throughout the race. Then, the series and its participants quickly made the 400-mile trip From Brooklyn (MI) to Springfield (IL) for Sunday's race at the Illinois State Fairgrounds where Hoosier bias-ply tires were in use. The race was won by Frank Kimmel who dominated the event leading 75 of the 100 race laps. Justin Allgaier finished runner-up to the cagey veteran after claiming the Pork Pole Award as the event's fastest qualifier. Justin is the son of Hoosier Tire Midwest owners Mike and Dorothy Allgaier.

Wallace, driving the Penske Racing Kodak Dodge #27, dominated the race leading 84 of 106 race laps after starting fifth. With the win, Wallace becomes the youngest driver to ever win (in any series) at the famous superspeedway.

There were 54 cars pre-registered for the race with 52 cars on hand and 41 cars ultimately starting the race. Kyle Krisiloff was the Pork Pole Award winner as the event's fastest qualifier. Krisiloff circled the massive 2.0-mile oval in 38.789 seconds (185.620 mph).

The race had six leaders among five different drivers including; Kyle Krisiloff (1-14), Steve Wallace (15-51, 60-106), Ken Schrader (52-53), Ken Weaver (54) and Dexter Bean (55-59).

Michael Guerity finished with a career-best second place--.401 seconds behind Wallace. Veteran Ken Schrader was third after starting 11th. David Ragan and Chad McCumbee finished fourth and fifth, while Ken Weaver, Brian Keselowski, Kraig Kinser, Dexter Bean and Mario Gosselin finished in sixth through tenth, respectively.

Kraig Kinser, making his first-ever stock car start, qualified on the outside pole en route to an eight place finish. Kinser was coming off winning the Knoxville (Sprint Car) Nationals on Hoosier tires five days earlier. The son of 19-time World of Outlaws champion Steve Kinser earned $140,000 for winning the 4-day event considered the Super Bowl of sprint car racing.

Fifteen of the 41 race starters finished the race on the lead lap. The race was slowed seven times for 46 laps due to various cautions. Ryan Hackett won the Hoosier Tire Hard Charger Award for advancing the most positions. Hackett started 29th en route to finishing 12th.

TIRES: Hoosier 12.0/28.0-15 5120 (left side) and 12.0/28.0-15 5650 (right side) tires were used with one inch of stagger. Michigan International Speedway is one of 15 stops on the 2005 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule where radial tires are used. The same two (compound) codes were used at the first Michigan race in June.

(Photo courtesy of www.arcaracing.com)SPRINGFIELD, IL (August 21) -- Less than 48 hours later, the ARCA RE/MAX Series was back in action. This time, it was not on a paved 2.0-mile superspeedway, but a slippery 1.0-mile dirt track with the ARCA drivers switching from Hoosier radials used at MIS to Hoosier bias-ply tires for the dirt track at Springfield. When the "Allen Crowe Memorial 100" was over, a familiar face was in the winner's circle. Frank Kimmel captured his 6th victory of the season and stretched his lead in the driver standings to 370 points over Joey Miller with just five races remaining in the 2005 season. Kimmel is shooting for his seventh series championship in the past eight years.

Justin Allgaier won the Pork Pole Award as the event's fastest qualifier smashing the previous track record set 10 years ago. Allgaier circled the track in 33.423 seconds (107.710 mph) in front of his hometown fans. In fact, the top four times in qualifying broke the record set in 1995 by Bob Hill.

Thirty-four cars started the race which featured five leaders among four drivers. A.J. Fike led the first 13 laps from the outside pole with Frank Kimmel taking over the lead for two laps before giving way to Justin Allgaier who led through lap 23. Bill Eversole led the next four laps before Kimmel regained the lead on lap 28. Kimmel led the remaining 73 laps to take the win--his 6th in 18 races to date this year.

Kimmel was followed to the finish line by Justin Allgaier who battled back from 30th place after pitting out of sequence. Joe Cooksey was third followed by Mark Gibson, Bill Eversole, Brandon Knupp, Doug Keller, A.J. Fike, Ken Weaver and Jason Jarrett in fourth through tenth, respectively.

Eighteen of the 34 starters finished the race on the lead lap. The 100-lap race also had nine cautions for a total of 40 laps. Brandon Knupp won the Hoosier Tire Hard Charger Award finishing 6th after starting back in 20th place.

TIRES: Hoosier 11.0/88.0-15 45 (left side) and 11.0/88.0-15 70 (right side) tires were used. Springfield is one of two dirt tracks the ARCA RE/MAX Series competes at on their 23-race schedule. The same Hoosier tires will be used Labor Day at DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.

All ARCA Series events are serviced out of Hoosier headquarters in Lakeville, IN under the direction of ARCA RE/MAX Series Track Service Manager Doug Barnes. Additional Hoosier staff doing double-duty making the trip to both Michigan and Springfield to help service the event included; Dave Wroblewski, Chad Wright, Larry Merrill, Jacob Hartle and Chris Grossman. Hoosier's Rick Tostevin and Eriks Bers were also on hand at Michigan.

The ARCA RE/MAX Series and its competitors will take a well deserved week off before retuning to action September 2nd at Toledo Speedway and again on September 5th at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.
