MADISON,
WI (August 26, 2012) -- Nineteen-year-old Chris Buescher was just 15 points
ahead of veteran Frank Kimmel entering Sunday's contest at Madison
International Speedway.
When the race was over, the young driver had
notched his fourth win of the year and stretched his lead in the driver
standings to 60 points with just three races remaining in the 2012 season. Persistent
rains throughout southern Wisconsin delayed the start of the Herr's Live
Life with Flavor 200 by more than three hours.
But when the skies finally cleared and the track
was dry, the fans who waited it out were treated to an exciting race that
featured 10 race leaders. Drivers leading
during the scheduled 200-lap race included; Alex Bowman 1-54 (54 laps), Brennan
Poole 55-66 (12 laps), Chad Hackenbracht 67-80 (14 laps), Erik Jones 81-85 (5
laps), Chris Buescher 86-133, 145-172, 175-208 (110 laps), Nelson Canache
134-138 (5 laps), Clint King 139-144 (6 laps) and Frank Kimmel 173-174 (2
laps). In qualifying, Alex Bowman was the
fastest qualifier among the 29 cars on hand. Bowman circled the 1/2-mile oval
in 18.093 seconds (99.486 mph). Brennan Poole was second in qualifying with a
time of 18.117 seconds (99.354 mph). The
event was extended an additional eight laps after a late-race caution. All
told, there were seven cautions for a total of 39 laps. Chris
Buescher, who had started seventh, led a total of 101 laps including the final
34 circuits en route to claiming his fourth win of the season. Alex
Bowman finished in second place .700 seconds behind the race winner. Chad
Hackenbracht finished in third followed by Erik Jones and Clint King to round
out the list of top five finishers. With
the win, Chris Buescher (4210) extends his lead in the driver standings to 60
points with just three races to go before the close of the 2012 season. Frank
Kimmel (4150) remains in second place after finishing ninth in Sunday's race. Kimmel
is followed by Brennan Poole (4075), Alex Bowman (4020) and Chad Hackenbracht
(3875) in the driver rankings. Hoosier
