It was Howard's second win of the season at the .555-mile high banked oval. The young driver led twice for a total of 99 laps in the 204-lap event. Howard was battling it out with defending series champion Frank Kimmel with 20 laps to go, when the two and a lapped car attempted to go three-wide on the tight Salem oval with Kimmel's Advance Auto Parts-Pork Ford making contact with the wall and relegating the champion to a 22nd place finish and Howard taking the win over Jason Jarrett and 17-year-old Justin Allgaier. Despite the disappointing finish, Kimmel still leads the ARCA RE/MAX Series by 675 points entering the final three races of the season.

Thirty-five cars jammed the .555-mile Salem Speedway high banks with Plymouth, Indiana's Flyin' Brian Ross on the pole with a lap of 17.702 seconds (112.869 mph) in qualifying. Joining him in the front row was previous race winner Frank Kimmel.

The race featured five lead changes among four drivers. Those leading during the event were Frank Kimmel (1-57), Brian Ross (58-83), Shelby Howard (84-89, 112-204), Randy VanZant (90-111). The race was slowed by nine caution flags for a total of 60 laps.

Following third starting Shelby Howard to the finish line was 14th starting Jason Jarrett. Finishing a career-best third was sixth starting Justin Allgaier making only his ninth ARCA Series start. Allgaier was driving the Hoosier Tire Midwest Chevrolet. Rounding out the top ten was Brian Ross in fourth, Randy VanZant, Alex Whitman, Andy Belmont, Norm Benning, Ron Cox and Matt Hagans in fifth through tenth, respectively. Seven of the 35 starters finished the race on the lead lap. Bill Eversole finished in 11th place and won the Hoosier Tire Hard Charger Award for advancing the most positions after starting 26th.

The series travels back to South Boston (Virginia) this Saturday, September 20, to complete a race that was postponed by rain from its original July 2nd date.

Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. is proud to have been selected by the ARCA RE/MAX Series to be the series exclusive tire provider.
