DUQUOIN,
IL (September 5, 2011) -- While most of us were relaxing on Labor Day, Chris
Buescher was working his way from seventh to win his first ARCA race of the
season at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.
Buescher, who finished runner-up
five times in 2011, finally made it into the winner's circle Monday leading the
final 60 laps of the Southern Illinois 100. Buescher now has three
career ARCA Series wins to his credit.
The Southern Illinois 100
is the second of two dirt events on the ARCA schedule.
In qualifying, 34 cars posted
times with Ty Dillon capturing his seventh pole of the year and eighth of his
young career.
Dillon was almost a second
faster than his next closest qualifier. Dillon's time around the 1-mile clay
oval was 33.678 seconds (106.895 mph). Kelly Kovski, who normally is crew chief
for Allgaier Motorsports, was second fastest with a time of 34.483 seconds
(104.399 mph).
The race featured nine leaders
among five different drivers. Leaders during the event included; Kelly Kovski
1-4, 17 (5 laps), Chad Hackenbracht 5-14, 16, 18-21 (15 laps), Ty Dillon 15,
22-37 (17 laps), Will Vaught 38-44 (7 laps) and Chris Buescher 45-104 (60
laps).
The race was slowed seven times
for cautions for a total of 32 laps. A late-race caution extended the race
length an additional 4 laps.
In the end, Buescher took the
win by .785 seconds over Ty Dillon.
Dillon was followed to the line
by Will Vaught, Kelly Kovski and Andrew Ranger who started back in tenth.
After the win, Buescher commented,
"I haven't raced on dirt a whole lot. My first couple Legends races on
dirt I finished 12th (in) the first one and won the next four. So, I have a
pretty good history. But I'm not saying I'm a dirt racer, (but) I sure do enjoy
it."
Those in attendance appeared to
enjoy it as well.
Hoosier's David Wroblewski, Chad
Wright, Luke Morris and Mike Haenes provided trackside service for the
event.
Hoosier Racing Tire is proud to
be the exclusive tire provider for the ARCA Racing Series.
With just three events left on
the schedule, the ARCA Series returns to action September 17, at Salem (IN)
Speedway.
