ROCKFORD,
IL (October 29, 2005) -- The ASA Late Model Series (ASALMS) concluded its
season at Rockford Speedway on Saturday with local driver Ricky Bilderback
winning the 100-lap NSTC 100. Eighteen-year-old Stephen Leicht needed only to
take the green flag in the 40th annual National Short Track Championships to
claim the 2005 ASA Late Model Series championship which he did without
incident.
On the heels of his success in the ASALMS, Leicht earned a ride in Busch
Series race at Memphis Motorsports Park where he finished a very respectable
13th place and was among 23 lead-lap finishers.
Brian Campbell finished the season second in points while earning the 2005
Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year award.
Although weather hampered some of the year's events, the 2005 season was a
resounding success with huge car counts enjoyed during the 13 races contested
throughout the season.
The 2005 season also marked the first year Hoosier was selected as the
official tire supplier of the ASALMS. After last year's PRI meeting, a tour of
the Hoosier facility by Ron Varney and other ASALMS officials, in essence,
sealed the deal naming Hoosier as the spec tire for the series. In record
setting time, Hoosier engineers developed a short track radial tire designed
specifically for the series. And the rest is history.
Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. extends its heartfelt congratulations to Stephen
Leicht on winning the 2005 ASA Late Model Series championship. Hoosier would
also like to thank all the ASALMS teams, drivers and fans who have supported
our efforts throughout the season.
