HOOSIER AND THE KONI CHALLENGE SERIES
HEAD TO BARBER MOTORSPORTS PARK THIS WEEKEND

AL (July 19, 2007) – The Grand-Am KONI Challenge Series Grand Sport and
Street Tuner divisions series closes in on its final four races of 2007.
In the case of this weekend’s races at Barber Motorsports Park in
Birmingham, Alabama, GS championship points co-leaders Jep Thornton and Jeff
Segal of the No. 09 Automatic Racing team, in the BMW M3 hope to pad their
points lead with their first 2007 win after seven top-six finishes in eight
starts.
ST leaders in the No. 76, Kensai Racing teams Acura TSX,
drivers Billy Johnson and Karl Thomson. Mixed results have been
overruled by a series-high four victories, with the duo targeting a fifth win
at the 2.3-mile, 16-turn permanent road course here at Barber Motorsports
Park.
Two-and-a-half hour races are slated for both divisions, as KONI Challenge
competitors will share a weekend with their Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series
presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve counterparts for the fourth time in
2007. Saturday’s ST race is scheduled to start at noon local time, while GS
drivers take the green flag at 8:30 a.m. local time Sunday.
Official practice begins Friday for both divisions, with ST qualifying at 4:10
p.m. local time Friday. Qualifying for GS is scheduled for 10 a.m. local time
Saturday.
