ROSSBURG,
OH (August 3) -- Donny Schatz won the tenth annual running of the
Historical Big One at Eldora Speedway and happily collected the
$100,000 winner's paycheck from track owner Earl Baltes on Saturday.
Schatz took the checkered flag while riding atop a Hoosier D12 left
rear and a D15 right rear combination. The first seven drivers to
cross the finish line in the 40-lap race did so while on the Hoosier
brand. The event followed the Pennzoil World of Outlaws sanctioned
Night Before The Big One race on Friday where the first 13 drivers to
cross the finish line were on Hoosier tires.
A total of 27 sprinters were on hand for
qualifying--24 on Hoosiers. Johnny Herrera set fast time of the event
at 13.151 seconds followed by Chad Kemenah on Hoosier tires.
All three heat race winners used Hoosier tires. Blake
Feese, Craig Dollansky and Paul McMahan were each heat race winners.
In the non-sanctioned event, the fastest six cars from time trials
that advanced to the feature through their respective heats were
locked into the feature, inverted, in positions 1-6. This placed Donny
Schatz on the pole with Craig Dollansky alongside for the 40-lap race.
In the feature race, Craig Dollansky got the jump at
the drop of the green flag to take the early race lead over Schatz.
The "Minot Missile", using a D12/D15 combination, made the
pass for the lead on lap 16 and never looked back to capture the
$100,000 win.
Finishing in runner-up in the Historical Big One was
Steve Kinser. Kinser used Hoosier's new RD15 for his right rear
selection. Craig Dollansky took home third place honors using a
D15/RD15 set-up.
The first seven drivers to cross the finish line used
Hoosier tires. Joey Saldana, Chad Kemenah, Jac Haudenschild and Greg
Hodnett finished fourth through seventh, respectively for
Team-Hoosier. Paul McMahan finished in tenth to give Team-Hoosier
claim to eight of the top ten finishing positions.
Congratulations Donny Schatz on winning the Historical
Big One!
