ROSSBURG,
OH (April 19) -- Bob Newton, founder and president of Hoosier Racing
Tire Corp., was voted the 2002 "Builder/Manufacturer of the
Year" by the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame Museum for the
third consecutive year. The award was accepted by Hoosier's Open Wheel
Dirt Manager Neil Cowman prior to the O'Reilly World of Outlaws' final
night of action at Eldora Speedway. The Builder of the Year award has
been awarded to Newton the past three years and coincides with the
Hoosier brand being the exclusive choice for many sprint racers across
the country including the last three World of Outlaws champions. In
2000, Steve Kinser gave the Hoosier brand its first-ever Outlaws
title, while Danny Lasoski was the Hoosier-shod champion in 2001. Last
season, Steve Kinser gave Hoosier Racing Tire its 3rd consecutive
series championship with Bob Newton being voted the
Builder/Manufacturer of the Year all three years. After the award was
presented to Cowman by sports writer Dave Argabright, it was back to
racing where the Hoosier brand continued its battle with the two other
competing tire brands. The result was much of the same over the past
three seasons with Team-Hoosier sweeping the first eleven positions in
the 35-lap finale. It was the eighth consecutive 1-2-3 finish for the
Hoosier brand. After last season's 90-6 record in the World of Outlaws
Series, the Hoosier brand has now won 15 of the 17 races contested in
the series to date and the top nine drivers in the standings in sprint
racing's premier series currently ride on Hoosier tires.
Cowman commented after accepting the award, "On
behalf of Bob and Joyce Newton and all the associates at Hoosier
Racing Tire we are very proud to accept the 2002 award for the
'Builder/Manufacturer of the Year'. Cowman added, "We would also
like to thank Steve Kinser and Danny Lasoski for winning the last
three World of Outlaws championships on Hoosier tires. Their
confidence in our product has been very instrumental in our
success." Cowman concluded, "We share this award with all
the race teams who's continued loyalty to our products has solidified
our place as the top manufacturer of sprint tires in the
world."
Bob and Joyce Newton wish to thank the National Sprint
Car Hall of Fame Museum its voters. Bob Newton stated, "Our
thanks go out to all the sprint racing teams that have supported our
USA-made Hoosier tires. We are very proud of all the members of
Team-Hoosier."
Also receiving awards at Eldora were Steve Kinser who
retained his National 410 Sprint Car "Driver of the Year"
award. Danny Lasoski was second in the voting with the top six drivers
in the voting all competing on Hoosier tires. Kinser's team also won
the "Team of the Year" award which was accepted by Kinser's
crew chief Scott Girkin on behalf of the entire team. Kasey Kahne
received the "Wild Card Award" for his exciting sprint car
efforts in 2002.
