LAKEVILLE,
IN (May 5, 2005) -- During the winter of 2004, several representatives of both
Hoosier Racing Tire and its affiliated distributors attended the DIRT Promoters
Meeting in Syracuse, NY. One concern voiced throughout the weekend was the need
for a more competitive, less labor-intensive soft compound tire for DIRT.
"It has always been our goal to produce consistent, durable, and
repeatable compounds for our DIRT tire rule." Commented Hoosier Product
Manager Shanon Rush. "However, many of the promoters voiced concerns from
their racers that our existing DIRT Soft had become too durable for their
tracks. Their competitors were spending exorbitant amounts of time grinding,
buffing, and siping these tires."
After numerous discussions with the Hoosier Product Team, DIRT officials,
and a long conference at Hoosier's annual distributor meeting, a plan was put
into place to introduce a new DIRT Soft tire as an option for the 2005 season.
The first real test of the new tire came this past weekend at Albany-Saratoga
Speedway in Malta, NY.
Albany-Saratoga hosted Round 1 of the eight-race DIRT vs. CVRA series.
Brett Hearn claimed victory with his 358 Modified. However, a very positive
effect of the new DIRT C3000 Soft tire soon appeared.
"Traditionally, Albany-Saratoga has favored the Small Blocks over the
Big Blocks," said Mike Romano of Andy's Speed, the track's servicing
dealer. "On the new Hoosier DIRT C3000 Soft tire, this is the most
competitive the Big Blocks have ever been. The new tires worked real
well."
The first DIRT Big Block over the line was third-place finisher Jeff
Trombley on the new Hoosier DIRT C3000 soft. Nine of the 10 Big Blocks
competing on Friday night chose the new tires.
