LAKEVILLE,
IN -- It is with great pleasure Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. announces
the resigning of the Can-Am Midget Club for another three years making
Hoosier the exclusive tire provider to the long-time racing group. The
agreement was the result of the efforts of Can-Am President Craig
Mackereth, Hoosier Tire Canada's Ron McKay, Can-Am/Hoosier Dealer Ken
Lorenz and Hoosier Racing Tire's Manager of Contract Sales Irish
Saunders. After testing against other tire brands, the club elected to
continue with Hoosier as the club's exclusive tire brand through the
2006 racing season.
Can-Am President Craig Mackereth commented, "In
our comparison testing, the Hoosier tires provided the driver more
control which will result better racing and fewer crashes which will
in turn save all our race teams money. It's a win-win decision."
Established in 1966, the Can-Am (Canadian-American)
Midget Club is one of the most successful midget racing clubs in North
America. Past participants in Can-Am events have included the likes of
racing greats Bentley Warren, Joe Gosek, Ken Schrader, Dave Blaney and
Jack Hewitt to name just a few who have competed in past club events.
In addition to being the club president, Craig Mackereth is also an
accomplished racer having won the points championship last
season.
In a testament to the long-standing success of the
Can-Am Midget Club, Castrol will begin it's 29th consecutive season as
title sponsor of the club. Can-Am is also enjoying continued interest
with six rookies already signed up to compete in the 2004 season.
Hoosier's Irish Saunders stated, "Can-Am and
Hoosier have developed a strong relationship over the years and their
decision to continue to run the Hoosier brand for another three years
speaks volumes about our relationship with both the club and the
drivers."
Competitors this season will use Hoosier's
10.0/22.0-13 MG5 as their right rear tire and a 7.0/20.5-13 MG4 or MG5
on the other three corners of their TQ (3/4) Midgets.
Can-Am currently has a 17-race schedule for the
upcoming season and will compete at six different asphalt tracks in
Ontario, Canada. The 2004 season will kick-off with an open practice
at Sunset Speedway in Stroud, Ontario on May 8th with the regular
season beginning May 22nd at Peterborough, Ontario.
