DAYTONA
BEACH, FL (June 30, 2005) -- Hoosier Racing Tire staff and the Grand American
Road Racing Association's Rolex Series are in Daytona Beach, FL for the "Brumos
Porsche 250" on Thursday, June 30. The weather forecast is predicting
scattered thunderstorms in the morning becoming more widespread in the
afternoon. The chance of rain is 80%. So it could be another opportunity for
the competitors to use their Hoosier "wet" tires. The temperature
should top out around 84 degrees with 5-10 mph SW winds.
The rapidly growing Rolex Series has 50 cars slated to compete with 23
Daytona Prototype (DP) and 27 Grand Touring (GT) cars entered. The teams will
return to where the season opened to do battle on the 3.56-mile twist and turns
of the newly repaved infield sports car road course at the historic Daytona
International Speedway.
Hoosier Product Manager Mike Kraemer commented, "The repaved infield
at Daytona is something we have been waiting for for a long time. It can only
be better. We always fight for grip on this track. The fact that it has been
repaved can only improve the racing conditions."
Hoosier engineers are in Daytona working closely with all the teams to
optimize car set-ups and monitor tire performance. Additionally, a host of
Hoosier tire technicians are also at the track to mount and dismount tires throughout
the event.
Hoosier Racing Tire is the exclusive tire supplier to both the Rolex and
Grand-Am Cup Series of the Grand American Road Racing Association.
Several Nextel Cup drivers are scheduled to compete including Tony Stewart,
Kyle Petty, Terry Labonte and Bobby Labonte. The race can be seen on SPEED
Channel on a 45-minute delay beginning at 8:00 pm (ET). Live coverage
throughout the race will also be available on the Grand American Road Racing
Association website www.grandamerican.com.
