MECHANICSBURG, PA -- In honor of previous Williams
Grove promoter, Jack Gunn, the Jack Gunn Memorial Triple 20's was
contested Friday night. The unusual format consisted of three 20-lap
feature races.
In the first 20-lapper, Todd Shaffer took the win from
his front row starting position and was one of the five Hoosier-shod
cars among the top six finishers. Sean Michael finished third, followed
by Greg Hodnett, Billy Pauch and Keith Kauffman in fourth through sixth
place for Team Hoosier.
The 2nd 20-lapper had Todd Shaffer making it two-for-two for the night. Greg Hodnett came home in third, while Keith
Kauffman captured the fourth spot heading into the night's finale.
In the final race of the evening, Keith Kauffman emerged the winner
with Greg Hodnett coming home third for Team Hoosier.
All three race winners were riding on a pair of
Hoosier D12's which proved to be the winning combination for the night.
Shaffer collected $2,500 for each of his two victories, while Kauffman
collected $5,000 for his finale win.
Hoosier's sprint tire product manager, Neil Cowman,
commented, "While the D12 has been extraordinary this season, we
felt it necessary to continue our testing program with the goal to
provide a tire specifically for red dirt applications." Cowman added,
"Less than two weeks ago, Keith Kauffman assisted us in
completing a two-day tire test at Williams Grove Speedway where Keith's
knowledge and driving style proved invaluable to us. We were able to
bring 14 different compound and construction variations which Keith
was able to provide us important handling feedback while maintaining a
consistent driving style throughout the entire testing session. After two
days, we determined we felt we had hit on the answer to our red dirt needs.
Based on this testing we began producing our new RD12 compound as an
additional option for both the left and right side tires. And despite
sweeping the events this past weekend on the
conventional D12, we look forward to being even stronger in the future
on red dirt throughout the country."
The new Hoosier RD12 compound is currently being
produced as a result of the recently completed testing session and is
intended to be available when the Pennzoil World of Outlaws
visit Williams Grove Speedway on September 28 and 29.
