LAKEVILLE,
IN (November 27) -- Following high-level meetings in Indianapolis
between Hoosier representatives and USAC executives, it was announced
that Hoosier will be the spec tire for the USAC Ford Focus Midget Car
Series in 2003. The new Indiana series is the byproduct of the success
of the Ford Focus Midget Car Series on the west coast this season. The
Ford Focus Series was developed by USAC to be an affordable
entry-level venue for open-wheel competitors.
The schedule for the new series is still being
developed but Eric Bunn, USAC's National Coordinator for the Ford
Focus Midget Series stated, "We are confident that we will have a
full schedule of 20 Indiana USAC Ford Focus Midget Car Series races in
2003."
Hoosier will be the exclusive tire supplier for the
series which will open the 2003 season at Anderson Speedway on
April 6th as part of the "Glen Niebel Classic" named in
memory of the late USAC car owner who helped Tony Stewart capture
USAC's triple-crown in 1995.
The tires will be produced with "USAC Focus"
name on them. The series will compete on both dirt and asphalt
surfaces. In keeping with the series goal of affordability, the tires
will be sold at $99 for a right rear tire and $89 for a left rear
tire.
Hoosier Manager of Contract Sales Irish Saunders
commented on the agreement, "The USAC Focus tire is a perfect fit
in Hoosier's line of open-wheel racing tires." Saunders added,
"Supplying a safe and affordable tire to USAC Ford Focus
competitors is part of Hoosier Tire's commitment to the growth of
open-wheel racing."
Tuesday's meeting was attended by Hoosier Vice
President of Sales Dennis Sherman, Sales Manager Paul Menting, Manager
of Contract Sales Irish Saunders and Open Wheel Dirt Product Manager
Neil Cowman.
