BOTH IN ACTION AT VIRGINIA INT'L RACEWAY

(Photo courtesy of www.grand-am.com)ALTON, VA (October 1-3) -- The Grand American Road Racing Association had both the Grand-Am Series and the Rolex Series in action over the weekend at the VIR road course. The Rolex Series Super Grand Sport (SGS) class was won by Michael Levitas and Randy Probst driving the TPC Racing Porsche GT3 Cup No. 36 (photo). It was the duo's second win in a row in the class which runs exclusively on Hoosier tires. In the Grand-Am Cup Series, 53 cars took to the track with 32 competing in the Grand Sport (GS) class and 21 in the Sport Touring (ST) class. All 53 used Tires Designed for Champions made by Hoosier. When the 75-lap race was over, Craig Stanton and David Murry were the GS class winners, while in the ST class it was Eric Curran and Bob Endicott capturing their first win of the season driving the No. 27 Acura RSX-S. Both the Rolex and Grand-Am Cup Series have just two events remaining on the 2004 schedule before next season when Hoosier will become the exclusive tire used by all series competitors. 

ROLEX SERIES-SGS CLASS

ROLEX Series SGS podium at VIR (Photo courtesy of www.grand-am.com)Forty cars started Sunday's VIR 400 Rolex Series race with 12 cars competing in the SGS class on Hoosier tires. When it was over, the TPC Racing Porsche GT3 Cup No. 36 was the winner (14th overall). The No. 36 car was driven by Michael Levitas and Randy Probst who claimed their second consecutive SGS win and fourth of the season. They finished over six seconds ahead of second place (15th overall) finishers Marc Bunting and Andy Lally driving the No. 38 TPC Racing Porsche GT3 Cup car. Amazingly, it was their ninth podium appearance in the ten events contested to date. Cory Friedman and Leh Keen finished a season-best third place (16th overall) driving the No. 14 Autometrics Motorsports Porsche GT3 Cup.       

      

GRAND-AM  CUP SERIES - GS CLASS      

The GS podium at VIR (Photo courtesy of www.grand-am.com)Thirty-two cars competed in the Grand-Am Cup Series VIR 250 in the GS class on Sunday. When the event was over, Craig Stanton and David Murry were the winners. It was Stanton's fifth win of the season. It was Murry's fourth race as co-driver with Stanton. In those four races, the duo notched a pair of wins. Stanton and Murry drove the No. 43 TheRaceSite.com Racing Porsche 996 into the race lead on lap 56 of the 75-lap race en route to the winner's circle over second place finishers Devon Powell and Terry Borcheller driving the No. 11 Powell Motorsport Cadillac CTS-V. Finishing in third place was Greg Wilkins and Dave Lacey driving the No. 17 Doncaster Racing Porsche 996. In a testament to the Hoosier tires the competitors were using, the first place finishers recorded their fastest lap on the 71st lap of the 75-lap event, while the second place finishers had their fastest lap on the 72nd circuit and the third place finishers did even one better posting their fastest lap on the 73rd lap.     

      

GRAND-AM CUP SERIES - ST CLASS

ST class podium at VIR. (Photo courtesy of www.grand-am.com)There were 21 ST class cars in competition among the 53-car field for the VIR 250 race on Sunday. Finishing in first place (10th overall) in the ST class was Eric Curran and Bob Endicott driving the Acura RSX-S No. 27. The No. 27 car was the only ST class car to finish on the lead-lap along with nine GS class cars. It was their first win of the season and followed a second place finish at the last event in Miami and third place finish at Mid-Ohio. Finishing in second place was David Haskell and Sylvain Tremblay in the No. 70 SpeedSource Mazda RX-8. Tim Pappas and Beau Buisson finished in third place driving the No. 97 Turner Motorsport BMW 330i. The VIR 250 race will be broadcast on SPEED Channel at noon (ET) on Sunday, October 17th.

The event was serviced by Hoosier Racing Tire out of the corporate headquarters located in Lakeville, IN. The service team consisted of Track Service Manager Tim Gilvin, engineers Gary Freymiller and Nick Chaney along with Fred Awald, Jim Bartholomew, John Broeker, Marc Brown, Terry Gilvin, Chris Grossman, Brian Herthoge and Dan Webb. 

The next Grand American Road Racing Association race is this weekend (October 8-10) at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, AL. The Rolex Series will be contesting the "Porsche 250," while the Grand-Am Cup Series will be hosting the "Barber 250."       

Hoosier is proud to have been selected by the Grand American Road Racing Association to be the exclusive tire provider this season to the SGS class in the Rolex Series and to the GS and ST classes in the Grand-Am Cup Series. Hoosier is also very excited about partnering with the series next year to be the sole tire provider to all Grand American Road Racing Association events.
