PHOENIX,
AZ (September 9, 2005) -- Grand-Am
Cup Series Sport Touring (ST) class points leader David Haskell picked up his
fourth class pole position of the season in qualifying for Friday's Phoenix ST
200 at Phoenix International Raceway.
At 4:00
p.m. PT, the green flag waved on the Grand-Am Cup Phoenix ST 200. Round 9 of
the 10-race 2005 ST schedule. Leading a pack of 19 cars into battle, was the
No. 70, Mazda RX-8, SpeedSource Team of David Haskell and Sylvain Tremblay.
In
qualifying David Haskell clocked a best lap at 1:09.906 (77.762 mph) in the No.
70 SpeedSource Mazda RX-8 that he co-drives with Sylvain Tremblay. The No. 70
duo achieved its fifth ST victory of the season.
Haskell and Tremblay are also the defending champions of the Phoenix ST
200.
Sylvain
Tremblay said, “We worked quite a bit on the tire strategy and what we
needed to have on the car at the stop. The tires are very consistent which
really pays dividends for a long runs.”
Coming in
second was the No. 01, Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by the team of Jim Holtom and
Ed Magner, just 43.974 seconds behind the winning car.
